How many of you can relax?

Specifically, can you totally tune things out? Not think about any problem you have to solve or worries about kids or job related issues, etc. If so, for how long, how often, etc? Not talking about alcohol or weed or Rx (or j&$king off involved).

Been in the military 17 years now.
I don't think I'll ever be able to truly relax.
ETA: Big test coming up, too. Going on a week long vacation to a resort with just the wife.

Read the book Power of the Now or maybe it’s Into the Now by Echardt (spell?) Tolle. Teaches you how to be present

Yes. Sauna or hot tub helps, but sure - 30 to 45 minutes easily.

I sot in my backyard, watch the animals, smoke a cigar and drink a beer.
Good enough for me.
Or just go get shithammered at duvics and get kicked out of a bar.
Also good enough and relaxing

I have 2 kids and a pretty stressful job.
I wake up about 30 minutes earlier than everyone in the house and get about 15 minutes of uninterrupted time.
That's about all I get a day.

I have zero problems absolutely shutting down and doing nothing and not stressing about anything. It's always been that way for me. And, yes, I have a family and a successful career.

I don't know about relax because there will always be stress you take with you even into retirement but the older I get the less I care about certain things.
I don't let work get to me like I used to.
I actually have a path to the end point that's certainly attainable for me and the fam.
I just hope to stay healthy to be able to enjoy life a little once that day comes.

Thanks, I’ve been following your posts. Watched “Change My Mind.” Have to be careful with teenagers in the house so can’t really microdose at this time but looking forward to that a few years from now if it’s available.

Absolutely.
With or without a glass of scotch, but scotch does help

I cannot. No matter how much I try. It sucks.

I can, but I have to be at the ranch or my wife's family's river house where you can escape the service bars on the phone. As long as I'm reachable, my mind is always on the lookout for something to pop up. If I shut the rest of the world out, well then it's the best relaxation period I can get. Nothing more calming than the sounds of nature and the river flowing.

I’m naturally uptight and worry a lot. It’s hard to relax even on vacation, I can’t sit still very long.

No. As a business owner there is always something that has me stressed out.

Found a new method to quiet thoughts the other day. If you’re trying to relax but your mind keeps racing, ask yourself “what’s my next thought going to be?” If thoughts keep coming, keep asking. Eventually you realize you don’t have to think about anything and you can be present.
My go-to if I want to be present is ask myself what are 5 things I can see, 4 things I can hear, 3 things I can touch, 2 things I can smell and 1 thing I can taste. It helps ground you in the present moment. I do it on evening walks and it feels really good.

This is why I have this…

I can. I am able to pretty much detach from stress/problems at work the second I leave until the next morning.

Nope. Anytime I have free time or nothing planned I feel like I need to be doing something productive
