If the work gets done, I don't see any issue with signing off and doing something else. There is no need to be glued to a seat just because it is "work hours".
Thankfully my department and director get this. I have certain projects I have to complete by certain deadlines. As long as I hit those deadlines, and do the other block and tackling upkeep type jobs, my boss doesn't give two shits how I spend my day.
Some days I'll get up early, knock out the things I need to do for the day, then tell my boss I'm heading out at noon to go frick off for the day.

I have been in the office every single work day throughout the entirety of covid 19.
+1
Work in medical field(not patient care) never missed a day.

Hell I'm sitting here in my office at home in a tshirt and shorts, and haven't even bothered to take a shower yet. Waiting until I'm done messing around in the garden.
I’m sure a small percentage of people are productive working from home, but it’s terrible overall.
Most people aren’t productive even at the office with supervision.

PTO sounds awful.
Why? i usually sell about 100 hours back every year for a nice payday.

I get a lot of PTO due to length of employment and I pretty rarely get sick so it's just about all vacation time for me. I get around 30 days per year with the option to sell some back and I can carry over 400 hours which I have maxed out currently.

Except for the whole "getting paid" thing.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The folks I work with both here at my office and the vendors and customer's I work with - almost all if unsupervised would absolutely do as little as possible working at home.

No one calls me. And if I call you, you fricked up something.
It just makes you feel more in the work zone. For me anyway.

Hybrid here as well. Which is stupid. At first we went back to half the team in the office 3 days a week and the other half the next week. So I’d shower, get dressed, take kids to school, and go to my desk and end up having meetings through the computer with people in other states I support or teammates at home that week. Now the whole department is back 3 days a week but most of who I interact with are in other locations anyways. I end up grabbing my laptop and going to an empty conference room for meetings instead of just joining from my home office with no distractions.

Same. Sometimes I go to the office and I'm the only one there in my department so I sit in a mostly empty building on a Teams meeting
