no it is not anymore complicated than that. Sugar intake has no effect on body composition and you can not find one study that shows that it does once calories are accounted for. In other words you are talking out your arse, period. Its weekly calories and daily protein that matters. Once daily protein requirement is met, doesn't matter where the rest of calories come from until you get down to below 10% bodyfat. There are over a dozen studies that show this. Absolutely zero that show what you are saying. I suggest you go read up on the science by reading martin berkham, alan argon, eric helms, lyle mcdonald, greg nuckoles, and layne norton.

I don't dispute the CICO stance, carbs vs. fats don't matter etc.

But I noticed where you said there isn't research backing any of Fung's ideas and that's not true. Research on fasting/intermittent fasting is being done and early results are pretty compelling.

Advocate article about a Pennington study from a few months ago

quote:

Ours is the first study in humans that shows consuming all of your calories in a six-hour period provides metabolic advantages compared to eating the exact same amount over 12 hours or more, even if you don’t lose weight,” said study co-author Dr. Eric Ravussin, Pennington's associate executive director and director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center. “Our data also indicate that our feeding regimen has to be synchronized with the body’s circadian rhythm and our biological clock.” The research is important, Ravussin said, because it shows for the first time in humans that the benefits of intermittent fasting are not solely due to eating less. Practicing intermittent fasting has intrinsic benefits regardless of what you eat, he said. Also, the study shows that eating early in the day may be a particularly beneficial form of intermittent fasting.

quote:

The researchers found that the fasting diet improved insulin sensitivity, which reflects how quickly cells can take up blood sugar, and it also improved the ability of the men's pancreases to respond to rising blood sugar levels. The researchers also found that the blood pressure of the men was dramatically lowered, as well as their oxidative stress levels and their appetite levels in the evening

I'm exactly at the last lb in the "normal" range. BMI is nowhere near an exact science. Or really any science. But it's not like it's that far off for the average non-chains 'n veins non-linebacker male.

6'-2" and weighed 205 this morning. at 185 i would look emaciated. i think 195 range would be more of a target weight, and that has me still overweight.

Not a response to you, per se, hfs. No way i am reading 25 pages.

My doctor told me that those BMI charts were created by insurance companies. So, consider the source.

I can tell you that i am physically unable to get under “overweight” on that chart. As an athlete at LSU, I was barely below overweight. There is no way i could back to that shape again.

Bottom line in this who;e discussion...just don’t be soft.

If you're not doing IF (like skipping a meal here and there) at least a few times a week then you're probably fat. It's basically something fit people do inadvertently. I do it because it's easier on my schedule, and because I like what it does to my body.

I haven't had a proper breakfast in years(on a weekday). I can't remember the last time I ate anything at all on a weekday morning. It's the most unnecessary meal there is. Loading up on carbs in the morning is a huge mistake that many people make.

I also rarely eat lunch (usually because I dont like eating at work or going to lunch with people). I'll have lunch maybe 1-2 times a week. Usually something small and quick.

What I DO eat is a massive 2000-3000 calorie meal when I leave the gym at like 6 PM every day.
