Here is where I get confused.
What is generally athletic about 5-6 210 lbs? Maybe for a powerlifter but that’s about it. To be optimally athletic you’d want to be 160 at most.
Most here are confusing athletic for “trains like a bodybuilder and maybe plays rec flag football”.

How you gonna add a question to your eta? Poor etiquette. Scruffy knows better.

I've been arguing that the normal range goes too low. For 6' I'd argue that 190 could be top of normal, shrinking the range for "overweight." Leave "obese" as is.
Again, waist circumference at about navel level is more helpful. Lucky for you, abdominal fat is far more problematic than your arse fat and thigh fat.
Lastly, imagine if you dropped to 155, the nl range actually drops to 136. That has been my point in my posts. That has nothing to do with being accustomed to fatties. You would look sickly at that weight.

This would mean being low fat with low muscle mass too. It certainly isn't "unhealthy" on it's own.

This is what I'm arguing against. Moving the normal range torards the heavier weights is is promoting fat acceptance and fate being the new normal.
Bmi may not be a good individual indicator, particularly on a selective sample site like the ot, but it is great for mass generalizations of an average population.

Played middle linebacker. Power lifted and was very good. 210 yes overweight and need to loos 30 lbs. I've done it multiple times and will again. I will be 185 like I was in high school and never was considered over weight by anyone...

I’m assuming most of these 6-2 220 lb studs played college ball somewhere if they are actually athletic like they claim.

No high blood pressure, no high cholesterol, and can still keep up with my kids that will be on scholarship for athletics.
I lose 20-30 lbs. every year, then gain it back. Even when I'm this big it is proportional to my legs and chest. When it goes down it is like in high school and I look great.
This chart again is strictly for insurance companies..

Some guys gain good weight easy. Some don't. Seems like you and I do. It does get harder to lose, but really I've just always been athletic.

Prolly depends on what "athletic" means. I've always said I'm an athlete, but not athletic; that's why I do (did) endurance sports and some boxing. I'm 6'4" and 215# with a 35-36" waist, but no visible abs or ripped arms.
Definitely not "overweight" like how the chart puts me.
Posted on 8/10/18 at 12:34 pm to Louie
Fair enough. But you are an outlier and the fact is your athleticism would have shot through the damn roof if you got down below 160 but like you said you were a powerlifter and MLB so that would have been detrimental. But it goes to show you are an extreme outlier.

6'1 and 144 pounds is normal. pft yeah whatever. this chart is shite.

“Athletic” generally means the ability to run fast over a short distance, jump high, change directions quickly and be reactive.
People considered “overweight” generally are very bad at these things. The ones that excel at them despite being overweight play in the NFL.
