I do vote in my HOA elections because I own enough property that my vote has a slight chance of making a difference.
Anything bigger than that and your efforts should be spent on influencing the sheep.

Our votes would matter a lot more if people stopped buying into the lesser of two evils myth. Maybe if people stopped voting for shitty candidates because they're told they have to then we'll get a worthwhile candidate at some point.

Agree. It just seems to me that some people take what they here on CNN- FSN etc. as the gospel.

There have been a ton of elections for State senators, representatives, tax issues, etc decided by only a few votes.
The U.S. Congress and some governor's races have been very close. These are from recent history, and of course Bush beat Gore by around 500 votes in Florida giving him the presidency in 2000.
1964 Howard Cannon NV U.S. senate by 48 votes
1974 John Durkin NH, elected U.S. senator by 2 votes
1994 Sam Gejdenson elected U.S. Congress by 21 votes
2002 Bob Beauprez CO elected to Congress by 121 votes
2004 Christine Gregoire elected governor WA. by 133 votes
2008 Mike Kelly Alaska elected to U.S. congress by 1 vote
2008 Al Franken Elected U.S. Senator by 225 votes

There was a parish-wide election for district judge that was decided by ONE vote.
I also know of a sheriff election that was very tight and, due to screwups with a few of the absentee ballots, they had to hold an entire new election.

-if we look at the original, most literal meaning, our votes could be seen more as wishes than some concrete way to express reality.
Regarding conspiracy/philosophical/psychological theories purporting the meaninglessness of voting:
if votes express our wishes and those wishes are not shared in uniformity by the human population, conflict will result. Conflict is just another word for 'fight'. Human history is replete with examples of cheating to win fights.
Ergo and based on human history, a system of voting will lead to conflict which can lead to cheating. If my vote is processed within a framework of cheating - and history says this is not improbable - then it may not really 'matter', no?
