We have multiple accounts and get our paychecks in different checking accounts, but we both have access to all of the accounts.

This is good, and the line of thinking that I don't understand. Seems kind of juvenile.

We have separate accounts. My wife would blow every dime on kids and grandkids if we didn't.

Everything goes in one pot and gets paid from one pot.

Keeping things as simple as possible reduces the friction of life so you can go do whatever rather than deal with more paperwork.

I do. My wife had an Aunt who got cleaned out by an ex-husband, stole every penny they had and took off. She drilled into my wife's head to always keep a separate account. I'm glad though because I'm much better at saving than she is.

No fricking. My wife rang up 21K in credit card debt when we had separate checking accounts. I said she could choose: joint checking or a divorce.

We're still married.

If your spouse is a financial lunatic, you gotta have joint checking to keep 'em in line.

I don't have any credit cards. But I checked my credit about a month ago because I was going to go buy a new truck and I noticed that my wife owed 7k in credit cards in my name. I have no idea how much she owes in her name.

My wife pays all the bills and does an excellent job. I only cash a counter check when I need cash.

My ex-wife was too lazy to buy stamps. She used to put change in the mailbox thinking the postman would put the stamp on the envelope. (true story)

I chose better the second time.

We only have one for obvious reasons:

1. one income
2. wife does all budgeting, bill paying, etc
3. I don't feel like messing with it

I have a credit card I use for day to day spending, she'll ask me to take it easy every now and then if I get out of hand

Here.

Separate checking and savings, but also a joint checking and savings for bills and the kids' college fund.

That's cool.

I was just wondering how you landed a babe that knocks down a $100K with you not being "pretty".

Same, our separate accounts are just for "spending money".

We keep our money separate. I pay the mortgage and utilities (I owned the house when we met). She pays groceries, going out to dinner, drinks, concerts and vacations. If we buy something for the house like a fridge then we split it 50-50. Works great. I dont have to ask to buy something and dont have to worry about what she buys.

I subscribe to this idea. Although, it seems all too common to lead a laissez-faire financial lifestyle between the two. Kind of like "Good luck with that - here's my money over here, and you deal with that on your own."

Not exactly what I think of when it comes to the word "Marriage."
