Before it becomes unsalvageable?

I know it’s going to be super difficult to get a replacement fridge right now, especially with covid supply shortages, how many days before stuff starts rotting?

If you keep doors closed...

About 4 hours for fridge

about 24 - 48 hours for freezer depending how full it is.

You don’t have a generator? Right now it should still be cold. Just run a generator and plug it up

It's not the food he's worried about.

This. I'm curious about the answer to this myself, other than 3.50 days.

Take a picture of contents before throwing it all away. Add it to your claim. Easier to prove with a picture but insurance companies are......

Do whatever you can to save your fridges.

They were backorder forever after Laura. My dad couldn't get one for 6 months.

We threw our shite out on the way out for Laura. Insurance wasn't paying fornthem as well like they did after Rita.

Good for at least three days in freezer.

This is exactly what I’m worried about!

We didn’t lose power until 7pm last night according to neighbors, wondering if we go back Wednesday or Thursday we can salvage the fridge?

Same boat as you. Don't give a frick about THE FOOD - when do I need to have it cleaned out by to not have to buy a new fridge?

Assuming it's sealed 36 hours? 48?

I must live on the wild side because I go a lot longer than this.

I just make sure I cook/microwave the food thoroughly if it goes on too long.

I put everything in the freezer into large black garbage bags. Doubles bagged. Hopefully when I’m able to get back home it’s just a matter of taking those bags out and not a loss of the unit.

What do toi have in your fridge that would cause you to need a new one? Serious question. Can’t you just throw everything away and bleach the inside?

Thats pushing it.

I'd say after two days you'll have an issue. Get there and take outside and let the sun dry it after you wipe down with Doors open.

If nothing liquifys other than the ice bin you might be ok.

The juices that run behind and under the insulation is what gets you

I had a fridge die somewhere during a 10 day vacation. We got back at 10 PM (with an infant in tow) to dead body smell, mysterious gelatinous substances, etc. That was a rough wee hours clean out.

Trying to get back and pitch all my food before it gets to that point.

I would estimate the food will start rotting after day 2. Beyond 3 days the fridge may no longer be salvageable without a lingering odor.

But that all depends on what you have in the fridge. I salvaged a fridge in a rental that was without power for a week and it has no issues. The freezer was mostly empty and the fridge mainly consisted of condiments.
