Columbus Day is ridiculous for a lot of reasons.

ETA: The whole "Christopher Columbus discovered America" bit always makes me chuckle.

No one cares about Columbus day. They could change the name, not announce they did, and no one would notice. People only care if they have off work/school or not.

No written language. No history. That's just the way it is.

when Hillary takes over, she has a serious axe to grind, and were all going to pay for it.

The scariest part of this whole election, is that the Loons on the Left will get to appoint 3? Supreme Court members. Meaning they will now have control, and the constitution will mean very little.

If there was one possible good thing Trump would of been good for, is that he would of appointed more moderate/constitutional judges.

Columbus is one of the most overrated men in history. He only has a holiday due to a massive PR campaign by Italians. At the time, Italian immigrants had a similar reputation as Muslim immigrants do today. Promoting Columbus was one of the ways they were trying to seem more American.

That being said, I caught up on a lot of sleep this morning, and just woke up about an hour ago, so I'm down with it.

I saw a CNN article saying we are close to changing it to Indigenous people's day LINK

ALSO notable.. Google are such heroes and don't have a banner up for it like they do most notable days! It's definitely worth putting up a banner for the dude who invented dirt's 4758th birthday like they normally do, but not evil Christopher Columbus day. They're just so wonderful and sensitive I love it !!

No, they don't. Are you ignorant of history?

The only reason it remains a federal holiday is the Italian lobby. Truth.

I'd much rather the holiday be switched to election day. Makes WAY more sense.

It's considered a paid holiday at my hospital. Granted.....I'm still working tonight but will receive an extra 8 hours of pay on my paycheck for the holiday.

So I say keep it.

Vermont has already repealed Columbus Day as has the City of Phoenix, AZ.

And as someone that lives in the PHX area....I had no idea they did this. Shows how much non-native Americans out here care about it. My work still calls it Columbus Day. Just saw some really annoying Navajo chick on my FB post about it saying "Everyday is a good day to be Indigenous!"

The native Indians welcomed Chris Columbus with open arms. He then turned around and back stabbed them.

The only Christopher that should be recognized on this day is Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G.

Federal workers will never turn down a day off regardless of if they are offended or not.

I can assure if Robert E Lee had a federal holiday there would be no objection.

Funny thing is he might not even be Italian. Nobody knows his origins for sure.

Marco Polo and Amerigo Vespucci are better explorers.
