Decided to do some improvements in back yard. Gonna build a deck that reaches out from Patio. Sent all info to a website a week ago. No word since. How long would the OT wait till they said frick it and continue on with plans.

The worst thing that can happen is you have to tear it down.

If they can't see it in backyard I would go ahead and do it

All depends, some you can get approval within a day or two and others only meet once a month. Each HOA has their own set of guidelines and schedule

Why not call them and ask how long it takes?

Do you not have the contact info to your board members?

I’m on our architecture committee and we only get together for a zoom meeting once every two weeks.

Have you read your HOA bylaws and determined your project is within reason and scope? If so go ahead with the project if you’re confident

When it comes to HOA's, I follow the age old advice of ask forgiveness, not permission.

I've never lived in a HOA, so forgive my ignorance.

You need approval from the HOA to do something in your backyard? The backyard that nobody else will see? That sounds insane.

I'm building something in mine that is slightly visible from the road, which means I should get approval, and if I get in trouble for it, I'll just rearrange my fence or put in shrubs to hide it.

So I'm going ahead with it without permission. I just don't feel like dealing with those people.

It should be listed in your covenants how long they have to respond. If they exceed that time, go ahead and start. Document the dates if they try to say anything to you and tell them to get fricked if they give you any grief.

Yay, another typical “shite on HOA without answering the question” thread.....

FWIW, my HOA is fantastic. Very hands off but there if needed to keep our neighborhood from turning to shite. Forgive me if I appreciate someone looking out for my interests.

They should have it in their bylaws how long they have to respond. Check the bylaws you signed when you purchased the home.

If the time comes and passes and you still don't hear anything, build it and tell them to go frick themselves if they say anything.

I'm so fricking happy I don't live in a subdivision anymore.

Well since you have your vagina full of sand this morning, let me clarify for you. I have never lived in a subdivision with a HOA. I've always had acreage or lived in an apartment in college. I did not know they had to approve you adding things to your own home. I genuinely thought they were there to make sure everyone kept their yard mowed and shite like that.

But god damned man, I hope your day gets better.

You know the storage room on the other side of a garage? I looked at a house for sale where the home owner finished that room out with flooring and ran a/c and heat to it for a play room for his kids.

Not a forward facing garage as those were against HOA, so this was basically in the back yard. (arguably inside the house) I was told not to let anyone see it because that was against the HOA rules.

Are you not capable of following up with them?

So you admit you don’t know what you’re talking about but continue to talk about it. Maybe just shut up.

Btw, my day is fantastic so far and is only headed up. Thank you for your concern.
