How long should a senior be missing before calling police?

Trying to decide if to call 911. Dad has been out since 7pm. He's starting to get confused and o rant him to not drive. He had no phone on him.
Have tracking on car but it's tied to phone. So isn't updating enough to pinpoint him.

Got a hit on his air tag and located him.
Will likely pull l the start relay on his car in the morning.

I went through this with my father. Get him to wear an Apple watch and you can track him. Best thing we did. That and alert the local police that he is starting to wander and provide a picture with his name and address and your contact number. It's very hard. Stay strong.

Right idea but Apple Watches have to be charged every 24 hours. I’d say just put an AirTag on keychain and be done with it.

Recommend a tracker that plugs into the OBD-II jack under the dash, you can track constantly. We saved a young man's life, he got into drugs and was going into extreme danger. 2 decades later, he's a great dad.

Sorry you and your family are going through this.
In these situations I probably wouldn't wait to call the police. If it's too soon to file a report, they will tell you. No harm in calling and explaining the situation to them.

my mom is 91, in great health and still drives. I need to track her and her vehicles, she lives alone in a very rural area. I will probably AirTag her car, but she still has a flip phone, so an apple watch wouldn't track her as well, plus she wouldn't charge it. She still works in the yard all day in the heat, so I need to know if she falls out there.

So I asked him about it. He don't know what day it is. Durant know where he went. Says he went to meet someone about a percentage of money or something.
So I told him he needs to see a doctor. He had some impairment. He turned violent and started throwing stuff at me to leave i stood my ground and he punched me. He's 6'3" 250 bigger than me and always been angry and violent.
So I left. May be time to get police and force him to a hospital for evaluation.

If he is a danger to himself or others, call the coroner. They can have him evaluated. He's gonna be pissed as shite at you but it's better than waiting until something bad happens.

We just went through this with my dad. Doctor evaluated him as unfit to drive and submitted paperwork to the DMV. Took away his keys. He found an old skeleton key to his car and drove. We tracked the car via AirTag. Took away the car. It’s at my sister’s house. He hasn’t left the house in 2 months and is fine just always being at home now.

As weird as it sounds, the parish coroner office is actually the ones that can briefly commit the person for mental health evaluation. We had to do that once for an elderly neighbor who was acting dangerously erratic and all relatives were out of state. Once the evaluation was done his family agreed to have him put in a nursing home.

Police can’t force him… but it’s a good idea to get them involved now to at least have a report of recent info in case he every goes missing again
Situations like your father’s would benefit from the local police or sheriff department having a program tied to a couple of nursing homes or home health nurses in the area… who could every now and then drop in on your father just to check how he doing… just a few minutes of conversation a week… more if it’s needed… the “defund the police” thing got a bad rap… the sensible people weren’t talking about getting rid of police officers… it was about funneling some of the money away from 80k$ SUVs and other over equipped bullshite… into community programs that really would serve a purpose
