Well, they picked up the pieces and stuck a test tube into his chest cavity to do the blood test.

Nothing too out of the ordinary.

I guess the transmission and hood laying in the ditch for several months after a grade crossing hit could be a kind of memorial as well.

They never had these in South Louisiana until I guess about the early 80 s. This tradition started out in the West with the Hispanic people. It gradually migrated East. i remember reading about this a while back.

if it’s a dangerous spot, keep them up forever.

maybe having 100 different memorials in the same spot will get the spot noticed.

I’m not trying to be rude. I’m eating lunch and the op pic is what I’m watching as I dine. That’s what spurred the discussion. I don’t know that I’ve ever caught someone actually visiting one.

on the public shoulder or a boulevard, as long as the survivors get comfort from it.

on private property? as long as the property owner allows.

On the roadsides in Mexico They must be permanent. I've seen some with elaborate light displays and candles burning like in a church.

Maybe if there were more of these memorials less idiots would be texting and driving.

There is one on Hwy 67 north of Clinton. Three people died there about 3 years ago in a fiery crash . It’s a memorial of lights, ribbon, and little monuments best I can tell. Every so often there are 4 or 5 people there. I’m assuming for a birthday. They keep it up so it may be there long term.

my sister lost her young daughter and erected a cross. it's therapeutic for her to see when she drives by. I don't ever want to lose a child and dont really judge anyone for putting up a memorial that's had to go through that. That kind of grief is not easy to overcome.

Also, the long road to Ft Polk is lined with them and its a really good reminder that the road is dangerous and to slow the frick down.

As long as it is maintained. If it starts falling apart or looking like shite, take it down. If it’s maintained and taken care of, leave it up

The memorial for the guy I ran over on the train was maintained for over 7 years.

Got rather tired of seeing it every trip.

I'm actually going to say one year....however, you must apply for a permit and pay a small fee, in addition to posting a $ 100.00 removal bond. If at the end of one year you remove it, you get your bond back. IF you do not remove it, the bond is forfeited and goes to the DPW of the municipality that is charged with removing it.

The memorial must likewise meet certain guidelines
( ie cannot obstruct line of sight, traffic, construction materials etc).

I like my government small too

I’ve never understood why someone wants to memorialize the spot where their loved one died.
