So prices can definitely go lower if the demand is not there
Usually, yes, but it depends on why demand isn't there.

Remove those 15 million people and I guarantee food prices go down.
If you remove every illegal alien in the US tomorrow the food demand will go down a couple of percentage points, the supply side (especially around the perimeter of the grocery store) will be wrecked. If you want high fresh food prices that is the perfect way to do it. This is where the new administration is going to have to choose a path, they are intertwined and fulfilling the promises mean you can't do both on a large scale.
Someone mentioned tariffs working in the long run. It is true that it would have some significant benefits to domestic production and all the positives that come along with that but the tariffs have to at protectionist levels for long enough to convince manufacturers to spend the CAPEX to start or increase production of those goods. The problem is there is no guarantee within the way the US works to assure them the tariffs will continue. While not a result of tariffs just look at how reluctant the ammunition manufactures were to tool up even when there were relatively long term shortages and prices were through the roof, it was simply due the potential volatility of the market conditions. Get a major shift in power the right way and demand tanks and you have manufacturing machines and plants sitting idle.

Grocery prices have never fazed me. I know how to buy goods for below market value

So what exactly would producers gain by lowering them?
People buying more food. If someone could only afford 1 steak at $20 dollars but at $10 dollars would buy 2 steaks then instead of products sitting on the shelves going bad they lower the prices.

I’m realistic so I know it’s gonna take some time and not be immediate but just curious how long we’re talking? The sooner the better that’s for sure lol
Dat wall though.

Yeah, that might work out that way for some luxury items, but people aren't going to buy more bread and milk and other staples than they are right now.
Why would they?
The problem isn't that steak is too high. It's that EVERYTHING is too high.
But I can assure you from looking around any public place that people are still eating plenty.

None one the retail side that I recall, hoss.
Housing, Food, Restaurants, Cars. Everything was deflationary 2008-2010 timeframe. I got a real made in Germany Knife set that was $1000 dollars for $400 at Williams and Sonoma. 2008-2010 was the best years I have ever experienced as far as deflation goes.

This is amazing.

Why is it amazing? People are saying food deflation never happens. It has and will again if the demand is not there. Remove 15 million illegal aliens from the country and I guarantee the demand and prices will decrease.

You don't remove the ones doing the farm work. Let them stay but take away there ebt cards and let them only eat what they pick

Need a Federal Reserve Chairman with some fricking balls. Bring Volcker back. Interest should be at least 9%.

That's what should have been done. The economy is a bubble. Housing, Food prices, Insurance, Car prices is not sustainable with the average American salary. That's why credit card debt is at a all time high. Pain has to be felt and prices have to come down. If not, you get civil unrest. This always happens in periods of sustained high inflation in society's around the world.

15 million people is a drop in the bucket. Prices won't move an inch.

When I read this post and saw there were already six pages of replies, I said to myself, “self, there are probably going to be a few people who understand reality and will tell the truth that people ain’t gonna like - and then they’ll be a whole lotta other dumb people that say a whole lotta dump things.”
I am NOT disappoint.

Grocery prices aren’t going back down to what they were in 2020. Ever. All we can hope for is that they don’t rise 15% per year like they have been.

What do you mean "under control"? Go back to 2020 prices? Probably never. Inflation go from the current 10-20% back down to 3-5%? Maybe a year. I suppose if there was massive overhaul in regulations, taxes, globohomo shite, etc prices could theoretically go down but not likely. Best case Trump is a bandaid to stop the bleeding from the current administration arse raping America.
I lived though the carter years. If you think sleepy Joe ducked things up you should have witnessed that crap!
Who ever down voted this poster is showing their ignorance of economics. I wish prices would go down. Reality is prices will never go back to 2020 levels.

It’s more likely that wages will increase, allowing more people to better afford their groceries. In addition, your taxes will likely decrease, which will have the same effect.
