We had two officers get piss drunk and piss on the floor of our hotel coffee shop and then proceeded to pass out in the lounge chairs while on a TDY at PME. (All caught on video surveillance) This was the last week of the 7 week school. They had finished all graded portions of the course. Their careers are most likely over.

It got me thinking, how liable should drunk people be for their actions ?

Another example: Chad “Machine Gun” Kelley. He was at a party and got so unbearable they kicked him out of the house. So in his drunken state he wonders to a neighbor’s home and enters their house and sits on their couch. They beat him with a vacuum tube and ran him off. He got arrested later and is facing real jail time.

Again how responsible should really drunk people be?

Just as much as a sober person. Being drunk is a choice and if they accept that choice they also must accept all that goes with it.

I know of a guy who killed a girl while he was drunk driving.
I was actually called on the scene. Her hair was in the rim of his truck. (She was in the other car, struck)
He got off with probation. Family has money. fricking disgusting.

Unless the alcohol is somehow forced into someone's body, they are 100% completely responsible for their actions.

They are the one who chose to drink. And I assume everyone knows the effects alcohol has on the human body/brain.

pretty sure Chad Kelly wasn’t drunk, but high af on something. no clue what he may have been on, though.

ETA: like everyone else has said, people under the influence of alcohol/drugs should obviously be held 100% accountable for their actions.

Were you drunk when you posted this question? It’s one of the dumber questions asked in some time on the OT . . . and that’s saying something.

Why would it be anything other than 100% liable?

Life is all about choices. You choose to get shitfaced or not.

How about a simple sliding scale based on your BAC.

<.10 = 100%
.10 to .20 = 50%
> .20 = 25%

If a person gets drunk by choice, they chose the possible consequences and 100% of the responsibilities.

If they were somehow forced or coerced, then hold all parties 100% responsible.

100%

Only exception would be someone who was drugged without their knowledge and consent.

Ask yourself if you agree with this statement.

People on drugs shouldn’t be held responsible for when they are high and steal from their family.

See how silly this sounds?

Same goes for alcohol. You’re responsible for your actions, impaired and sober.
