That's why it's still easy to troll people here, posters actually do set bars low. You do have to question lot of the time.

He came back out with a .45 pointed in my face.
If you "subdued him" and have no idea what he has on him, why the frick do you let him go grabbing for it.

I agree, situational awareness is really the key. Also agree with the poster above who said most of the time of people are fighting, they wanted to fight and it’s not a matter of self defense.

If you avoid trash in your life the need to defend yourself in a fight as an adult are basically nil.

but how is it “really important”? Seems like with the potential criminal and civil charges, injury, or even death, that street fighting is hardly ever the correct choice. And I don’t see how the Jon Jones thing is bullshi
Having the ability to defend yourself to the point of getting out of a situation is basic survival and therefore really important.
I’m not saying you need to be able to compete in a UFC fight, frick or even in a square off, I’m just saying you need to be able to defend yourself to the point where you can get out of a situation.
And for the John Jones thing, since when is the pound for pound best fighter in the world attacking you? shite when is a guy ranked in the top 10,000 of the pound for pound fighter attacking you

I was trying to leave but the other person had the vehicle and I didn’t have the keys
It was the owner of the bar. He was drunk as piss and I have no clue why he attacked me. I wasn’t drunk and it was like 2 am and there were only a couple other people there. I hadn’t done a damn thing I just wanted to go home

I wouldn’t really say he had a glass jaw(even relative to other professional fighters) it’s just he was super aggressive in his style, either you were going down or he was, because he was going to be swinging for the fences.

It’s easy to avoid fighting if you don’t frequent trash establishments
For starters, bars that need bouncers

Probably not that important. Once it comes to blows you're already a lose lose situation.

There was nothing around. It was in the parking lot. Tiger tavern in pville.
I had no inclincation to fight but the dude charged me and my old wrestling instinct kicked in. I put him on the ground in a hold and told him I didn’t want to fight. His bartender pulled him off of me and I was asking the bartender where my friend with the car was and what the hell was going on when the owner came back out with the gun.
I said frick this, nope, backed away and walked off and called a buddy to get me

This.
The ability to avoid putting yourself in situations where you have to throw hands is not only more valuable, but far easier to obtain.

Nine times out of ten the only self defense you need to know is a push kick and an arm drag. Rickson Gracie says the arm drag is the best and most important self defense move.

Run first.......if they catch you, give all you got!

I second the situational awareness point. Of the two or three times over the past ten plus years that I have been in a position where fighting was even a possibility all of them were due to my poor decision making at the time. The overwhelming majority of instances that come down to fighting can be avoided simply by making smart decisions. I know some people who found that out way too late.
My dad always said that there is a reason young people are more flexible and heal faster. By the time you get old enough to know better, you've lost those abilities and gained a bit of wisdom. Hopefully.
