I find it tough having to do a multi-lane change when the traffic is flowing and the odd time had to leave the interstate and jump back on to go in the right direction. When the traffic is very slow, I find drivers generally let you in without any problems, especially if you have out of state plates.

The problem with city interstates is that you HAVE to know your exit and the approach. Otherwise, it's pandemonium.

I’d rather have to drive across Houston any day than have to drive across Baton Rouge, especially if it involves the damn Mississippi bridge.

There are parts of the interstates in L.A. that raise heart rate and blood pressure.

I’m from BR/NO.

Of course I don’t get nervous driving or otherwise anywhere.

All the toll ways signs throw me off. I just follow Google maps and when I make it home after a weekend, I get hit up with $50 in tolls.

I just get in the left lane and go with the flow in that lane. 9 times out of 10 it's the fastest lane. I don't change lanes until I am ready to exit.

When I was still trucking, I always found a way to get over for that left lane exit.

I’m fine driving downtowns where traffic is slow. Going into interstates and 8 lane highways I’m awful and get anxious. Having to cross over 8 lanes to turn left in less than a mile and everyone driving 90 is something I don’t like :lol Making the drive to Houston soon to see my daughter (no pics) and always dread the drive in and back home.

I drove from North Carolina to New Jersey and back last week, basically I-95 the whole way. Catch that whole corridor: Richmond, D.C. and Baltimore traffic. Hit 295 up over the Delaware to Jersey instead of the Philly route. I've always enjoyed driving, highway or otherwise. It's one of the few things where I have some skills. My current MINI has proven best of the ones I've owned. Up and back last week was some easy driving, even with the usual congestion.
It also helps if you can telepathically keep everyone far away from you. The MINI is small but I still need some extra space. A quick mental "hey, mfer, wtf are you doing?" pointed at some idiot in a Telluride usually does the trick. Results vary by make of car. Avoid Altimas, don't waste your powers on them, it's fruitless. Most SUVs and crossovers need to be maneuvered mentally for safety purposes.

I started driving pretty much anywhere I needed or wanted to go in 1979, at 14, in Atlanta. I drove a 1965 Chevy truck with 3 on the tree and a bad worm gear in the front end from Six Flags to Paces Ferry Road just about every day during the school year (exchange student from public school to private) and that truck could not be driven above 35 MPH or it would almost shake itself to pieces and the only way to stop it shaking was to slam on brakes. It was an adventure everyday. After 9 months of that there has never been a situation on the road that I wasn't more than comfortable with. If you cut your teeth driving in Atlanta in the 70's anyplace on earth seems calm in comparison.....

I've driven in Kuwait City and Baghdad. You literally fear for your life. They give less than two fricks over there

Houston

I drove from Atlanta to Galveston Texas on August 19, 1983 to make some money off Hurricane Alicia (on my 18th birthday). My uncle had a HVAC company in Galveston and I knew I could either work with him or do cleanup or something. I drove a 1969 Chevy C10 long bed pickup. Alicia passed to the west of Houston on 8/17 so I left Atlanta 2 days after landfall. For almost 8 months I drove from Galveston to Houston to pick up AC units in that truck. This was back in the day when I-45 was about 16 lanes and during morning and afternoon rush hour they would change the direction of travel on both sides to either north bound (morning) or south bound (afternoon). It was bad....far worse than traffic in Houston is now, as bad as it is now. I never felt uncomfortable with it other than being aggravated by it. Having learned to drive in Atlanta will prepare you for about anything driving can fling at you....

My favorite was Amman. Six cars wide, no lane markings to be found.
