Also, is it worth moving if the company doesn't help with expenses (most seem to be moving away from this).

thanks trump

I thought you were a class 5 battlemage engineerdwarf or some shite?

In all honesty, props to you for continuing to come back here dude.

You obviously have no family support, a terrible dad, no succesful friends, and you came from a shitty community and you're trying to better yourself.

Nope, just two. I thought the same thing, but LA makes you pay tax on them, it's ridiculous

If you've already paid tax on them, you'll get that money back.

Teach me your ways.
Becuause I paid tax on both vehicles in Florida, and one vehicle was originally bought here by my inlaws. Then I paid tax again when I registered them here in 2016. They give you some bullshite 'credit' towards the taxes if you've already paid taxes before.

It's a racket. One car has had taxes paid on it 4 times since it was bought.

Last April we moved from Houston(katy) to Kansas City area for wife's job. Her company paid for everything including closing cost etc. I think the final bill was around $35K, I'd have to look in our tax stuff though for the final figure. One big thing to consider is if you are moving from a state with income tax or one without. It sucks having to pay state income tax now.

You're doing it wrong. That's all I know.

ETA: Here's a link with some info for you.

New to Louisiana?

When you move to Louisiana, you must register your out-of-state motor vehicle with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) within 30 days.

NOTE: Use tax is required for all registered vehicles, but you may be able to receive a credit if you already paid sales tax in your previous state. Contact your nearest LA OMV office for more information.

Your vehicle will also need to pass an inspection before it can be registered. Safety inspections are required in all of Louisiana. Some parishes also require emissions inspections.

BEFORE you register your vehicle, make sure you've purchased Louisiana car insurance.

To register your vehicle, you'll need:

The Vehicle Application (Form DPSMV 1799).
Your driver's license (or a copy for mailed applications).
The current title and registration.
Proof of car insurance.
Proof of sales tax payment IF you paid tax in another state and will be claiming credit for it.
Payment for fees and taxes.

My brother-in-law lives in McKinney and works downtown Dallas and pays close to $3k in tolls.

I can see that considering its about 30 miles one way, but if I were to have guessed at an amount I would have probably said 2k max. Most people I know are pretty close to downtown so they probably miss a lot of them being in the middle going out instead of the other way around.

Yeah I know what it says it's misleading though, the "credit" is only a percentage of the tax required based on the state where taxes were paid at least that's what the DMV told me because I brought the proof.

Why would you register your car in the new state. I've always left my cars registered in MS even during the times I lived in Texas and now Missouri.

I wonder how you even draw breath without asking.

The majority of the questions you ask should already be known by now at this stage of your life or found with a simple internet search.

My company gave me a 5k relocation bonus to move from Baton Rouge to Austin.

I just brought my clothes, xbox, tv and computer in my car and bought new shite from Ikea once I got here.

Cost me ~$2k to fully furnish my 1 bedroom apartment.
