Like what factors should you consider when moving. Let's say you land a job in Dallas Texas and you want to live within a hour of the job.

If you are not ready to settle at a suburban house, should you look up the averge apartment price.

Also, is it worth moving if the company doesn't help with expenses (most seem to be moving away from this).

ETA I know I'll get some troll responses. However, I an sincerely hoping for pertinent responses.

Didn't like the lack of answers from the Travel Board?

Also, do you actually have an offer or are you just getting way ahead of yourself.

Honest advice, you just need to work, and stop looking for greener pastures.

How could one possibly give an estimate where there are so many variables?

I mean our last move was between cities 6 hours away, and with the help of family, the total cost was only a few hundred dollars, including gas for our vehicles and the truck rental.

On the other hand, since we had to break our lease, the fee for that was three or four times the actual moving expenses themsleves.

If we didn't have family to help, or had to have things in storage for an extended period of time, then those costs would have risen signicantly.

Last time I did it I had the luxury of the company having a corporate apt for me to live in the first year.

One thing it helped was when I started searching for a place of my own I would go to there before work and see what the drive was like.

I thought life was all about improving yourself, establishing what you are worth, and seeking opportunity to attain it.

Your threads are a great example of how someone can be educated and still so, so dumb.

Based on this statement, I'm willing to bet you're not going to be happy whenever you find out what "your" worth.

I've done it so many times and am in the process of doing so right now

The main expense is whatever you use to haul your belongings like a UHAUL or whatever.

My move from Iowa to Seattle was over $3000

My move from Seattle to Houston we are looking at $2000+. Fortunately I have family in Houston so I dont need to have a hotel room until I find an apartment

Gross pay and cost of living expenses at current location compared to gross pay and cost of living expenses at the other location. The greater of the two is the winner.

It is, but at this stage, you have zero skills that bring value to a company. It is obvious you lack communication and business etiquette skills, and you will only get those by grinding in the work force. Pick a technical topic, become an expert, learn the business environment, then worry about your corporate climb.

Yeah.. I hate having to always double check the grammar on my phone.

You do realize that thousands of people everyday make mistakes due to autocorrect on mobile devices.

Sad part is most people don't care, at least I try to edit after posting.

So you don't take the time to do it right, but you will take the time to do it over?

I would not tell an employer this.

You ought to be able to figure this out yourself.

That being said...

3000 for initial apartment cost (first+ last month's rent + deposit on a 1000/month apt.)

Probably another 2-3k for moving expenses ( U-Haul rental, gas to get there, and extra money to out fit the apartment with groceries, dry goods, and a little furniture.) This is assuming you already have things like a bed, dresser, kitchen table, etc.

I'm moving to Houston for a job. Got a $3k moving bonus plus I'll have an extra $5k saved up to out fit the house I'm renting. I only need to buy a couch and some cookware. Everything else I've already got.
