*WARNING FACEBOOK LINK* Harris County Sheriff's Office
Exactly how easy are these vehicles to steal? Thats a programmer bought off of Amazon

Early this morning, patrol deputies stopped an in-progress auto theft. Two suspects broke into a Dodge Charger Hellcat and used their own vehicle to push it down the roadway. Deputies spotted both vehicles traveling without lights and conducted a traffic stop, detaining both suspects.
HCSO Auto Theft investigators were notified and responded. During the investigation, suspects were found in possession of key fobs and a programmer — tools commonly used to program key fobs during vehicle thefts.
Both suspects were charged and transported to jail. The Hellcat was returned to its owner.

Seems like they were unsuccessful programming a working key fob

Some future physicians were snooping around the hospital we worked and attempted to steal my buddies challenger. They broke the glass, cut through the floor for some reason then tried to tow it out with a towing strap. They were unsuccessful but did crash it before driving off themselves in an SUV.

does it only work on cars where you just have to be close to the car for it to unlock?
my '24 Mazda, you still have to press a button to unlock

Don't forget the Durango SRT Hellcat
My neighbor had one of these, sounded badass when he cranked it.
GONE - Stolen out of his driveway at 2 am, no trace and never found.
North East DFW

Damn, so if you have one make sure u park another vehicle behind it or have a closed garage.
Also, it seems they able to use the programmers to shift them into neutral without cranking them?

Son in law has his new truck stolen from a hotel near Webster, Tx.
Caught on hotel video.
Preps pulled up, under 2 minutes later they drove off with his truck.
Truck was locked, perps did not break windows.
After entering, they cut wires under the dash to disable the tracking.
Evidently truck didn’t run well after they did that.
School Resource Officer found it at a school 14 miles away.
Damage repaired, but truck had glitches for a year.
Ended up trading it in.

I don't understand why more car companies aren't making phones the key like Tesla. The car unlocks when I walk up to it and locks when I get out of the car with my phone, I have an audio alert if I get out with my phone still in the car. I have access to the cameras in the car on my phone. I can see real time temps inside the car. I can access the cameras on the car from my phone etc. It just seems like a much more secure and economical way of doing things.

Break window
Hook up code reader to OBD2.
Pull up transmission lock cover and move transmission to neutral.
Use code reader(has to be certain models) to start engine.
Throw into drive and go.
Not as easy as a Kia but if you own one you should have a brake or steering wheel immobilizer on.

Because that is only slightly less hackable than anything else. Teslas don't get stolen because they are connected in every respect. Steal a Tesla and try to part out the battery pack, which is the big ticket item, and Tesla will know the first time someone charges it on their network. Like iOS devices, they're pretty much worthless after the company gets a stolen report and the car is bricked.
Any other car can be successfully parted out, or just driven off to a foreign country, and there is no way for the OEM to know where it is. The Tesla is a tightly integrated rolling computer in a closed sandbox, OTOH, like iOS devices. You can do things with a BEV that you can't do with an IC engine car WRT to theft.

Or just act like it's the 90s and put a club on your steering wheel.

If (professional) car thieves really want your car, they may not get it today or tomorrow, but they will get it.

No idea- but in BR most of them are driven like they're stolen.
