How does the OT feel about social media

I think it started as a cool way to keep in touch with people, but has evolved into a black hole of false reality and insecurity. I believe it has an overall negative affect on society, and the only platform I can tolerate is Instagram because it’s the only one that isn’t completely overrun with political bullshite.

Facebook > Instagram > Twitter
Entertainment wise
For news, it’s Twitter

Stop posting on TD if that is the only platform you can tolerate.

This site and all online message boards are by definition social media.

Odd question for a social medium

I don’t see TD as social media. Mainly because it’s anonymous so people actually say what they want to, talk shite as they please, etc. The anonymity actually makes it more real than places like Facebook or Twitter because people aren’t as worried about what people think about them.

Social media is defined as
Social networking definition:
That’s what we do here. You’re still interacting with other people not bots. The term was coined in the late 70’s too.

websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

It’s divided our country against one another in ways we haven’t seen since the 50’s/60’s. The problem is that any dumbass person can have a voice on every matter out there and other dumbasses flock to it as gospel. Sure it’s done some good out there for some but unfortunately the media typically only paints the negative aspects of society. As a whole I think it’s slowly ruining society and has forced a large portion of society to not have any real communication skills.

Bro, most of Twitter is anonymous outside of celebrities. Plenty of anonymous Facebook and Instagram accounts too

The key difference, to me, in a place like this vs a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, is that you have actual conversation. People talk way more freely on these types of places than a generic platform because there isn’t a concern of public perception. I should’ve been more specific but I assumed most would understand I was talking about the mainstream platforms.

People make burner accounts to communicate anonymously on Twitter and elsewhere

The problem with all this stuff including text messaging is things get lost in translation. You can’t see sarcasm or inflection with these mediums.
That said people on TD use that to their advantage.
