How does Publix compare to HEB, for those who've been in both

Lived in FL for about 15 years and have family there now. Have lived in TX for over a decade. Here's the verdict:

HEB >>>>> Publix in any and every significant grocery metric.

Just an aside, but I don’t like BOGOS. As a single guy, I just want one portion of whatever it is. I hate wasting things, especially food.

most everything outside Fl is better as far as consumer products, Publix is a good store but they stock based on their target market

We have 6 publix's in a ten mile radius where I live. Depending on where you live is how Publix prices their items. Not much competition out here for Publix so we pay premium prices compared to say a Walmart.

Publix is nice and clean. Deli subs rule. Fried chicken is damn good. They always have BOGO’s and you can save with those

Actually these two items are great for deliciousness and price.

Normally don't eat fried foods but have made an exception for their chicken and the Italian Subs

We have three within a 15 mile radius here. Two Rouses and two Walmarts.

Rouses is great for Cajun spices, King Cakes, fresh cut meats and their wine selections/prices can't be beat.

I steer clear of Walmart.

Publix is at the bottom of the grocery stores. The store brand, save for its ice cream, is average. The produce, butcher, and seafood are below average

Jesus Christ.

The much ballyhooed subs there are at the level of Subway.

Publix = Chick Fil A - "My Pleasure"

I buy BOGOs because of their high prices and adjust my menu plan accordingly. The checkers routinely comment on my purchases and note that I only have sale items in my cart.

What the heck, it’s not like their paychecks are less because I’m a good steward of our funds.

Don’t talk to me if that’s all you can think of to say.

They finally have two self-checkouts but there’s an employee turning anyone away with more than 5 items.

INB4 get off my lawn

Edited to add: and the fried chicken is too salty.

Shopping the sales makes it more reasonable but ours is really, really bad at having items ring up a higher price than what was on the tag. Works in your favor if you catch it (you get it free) but that is the main reason I do not do the bulk of my shopping there. It is too much of a hassle to remember all the prices, watch every scan like a hawk, and then get everything adjusted, especially considering they are more expensive than most grocery stores to begin with. I'm sure I've only caught the more egregious errors, like the $7 can of store brand whipped cream.

That being said, the deli and bakery are great. We get our birthday cakes from there and their prepared meals/food is good when I want to pick something up. My kids get a cookie and piece of fruit out of the free bin every time they go.

Publix is less than a mile from our house. The friendliest staff (we get hugs from the lady I wish were my grandmother). It's clean, and just an all-round great shopping experience. $5 sushi Wednesdays are awesome. For a few bucks more, completely worth it.

And PubSubs

The good thing about Publix BOGO is that you don't really have to buy the second one. The first item will mark up as half off.

A little more expensive, so less riff-raff.

Very clean. Helpful courteous staff.

My local Publix has valet parking so I assume it is a little higher than a Kroger.

I just think of them differently. Publix is king of the “regular supermarket” imo. HEB is sort of a different category altogether. Publix is a great QT whereas HEB is Bucees.
