How do you react when you get "played"?

I was all set to go try a new place to eat. Driving up, one spot left in a gated parking lot. I see a car with his reverse lights on, so I let him back up so he can pull up to the gate and leave.
Well he backs up into the spot I had waited for and parks. I tell him I was getting that spot he just smiles and points to the "compact" spot he left.
Of course I could not fit.
I saluted him and drove off.
Pissed me off. Why do people have such bad parking lot etiquite?
I always feel stupid in these scenarios. fricker ruined my lunch break.

I did, I was mad. I feel like if I was in my personal car I would have got out and acted stupid. As it is I'll probably get some random bad yelp review for flipping him off.

Had a guy flip me off once at the grocery store.
I forgot my wallet so was walking back to my car to get it. He was creeping behind me the whole way to my car thinking I was leaving and he would get my spot I guess. When I reached in and then closed the door back walking away, he gave me the bird and squealed off.

you snooze you lose, if the spot is open you take it or lose it, the only one you should be upset with is you for waiting
