When your boss, who you've made literally millions for, tells you that you're making too much money. Ever since that day, I've made it my goal to own my own business and I've been working towards that goal since then. Getting my ducks in a row, tons of research, now I'm just stacking money so I won't have to do a sba loan.

If you're feeling bad, time to drag.

The universal driver for change is "disatisfaction with the status quo." Yes, I had to go to a change management training class to learn that.
Two things likely happen to you to generate that disastisfaction;
1. Money, lack of it. Someone will offer you more to go somewhere else or you will become aware that your skills are more valuable elsewhere.
2. You cant stand to go in to work anymore. Lack of challenge, interest, or people that you do not like.
Talk to yourself about these issues and you will see what you need to do.

When you hear on the news the night before that the company has sold, and you show up to work to find a locked gate and ten security guards checking approved names off a list one vehicle at a time.
True story. Start looking, even if your name is on the entry list.

I’ve almost always held onto jobs too long and it was always the wrong move. For example I was offered a job around 2010 that I turned down, and had I accepted I’d be retired by now.
Exceptions:
In October 2005, in the aftermath of Katrina, a buddy called and gave me this sales pitch: “Your house there is destroyed. Why don’t you come work for me, travel around, and make a lot more money than you’ve been making?” Sold. Instant 67% raise.
My last job was with a government contractor. They lost the contract to another company that retained me. The new company was clearly not competent to run things, and I surfaced my concerns to my management. Their response was basically “tough shite; deal with it”. I had a new job 6 weeks later with a 16% increase.

Since you are asking this on a forum, you've probably already decided it's time to look for a new job.

It’s time to leave when the company stock price the day you started was $35 and it closed yesterday at $7.

If on a Saturday when you’re having a good time with Family or friends and the thought of dread going back to work creeps in, and gets stronger on Sunday.
At that point it’s time to really think why that happens and if it’s worth continuing to work there.
Peace of mind is priceless.

When you are bored, unmotivated and giving 50% effort. You can either leave now on your own terms or wait for them to figure it out.

If you asked me 3 years ago I would’ve said I was one of the best at my craft in our organization. 2 years ago I found out the people I worked for didn’t value my skill set.
I understand what you mean there. I worked at one place and was killing it for the first couple years. Got promoted and moved up the ladder quickly. Then upper management changed. They naturally brought in new people, and I felt like I was becoming old hat. I read the room and bounced for greener pastures. They're happy, I'm happy. Nothing personal, it all worked out.

I asked for two things that were not a big deal (transfer and upgraded equipment) and told no. Applied at competitor and got both plus more money.
