Everything is always "Us" against "Them". Applies to every topic.

We need a reckoning. A culling of the fold.

I worry about the future of this country. I'm glad I have a second passport (Italy). Not that Italy (or Europe) is any better politically or economically but it's nice to have that option in case things really go to shite fast.

This message board represents a small subsection of the populace at large:

-Mostly male, mostly white, mostly conservative southern football fans.

I think things are ok overall. Can always get better.

The lower classes are getting shittier, upper classes are totally out of touch.

Everyone vilifies everyone else, it's a nation full of pretentious, insecure people desperately trying to fit in, somewhere. We lost the desire for individuality somewhere along the way

You mean the region of the world that has been in a perpetual war for the past 2000 years? And you think there are options outside the only country causing stability in that part of the world?

I find myself agreeing with this all the time. Could you imagine going to war in a previous time? Those dudes didn't have automatic rifles, stood on a line and shot at each other as they reloaded, advanced the line and then shot again. Those dudes that landed on Normandy beach. . . that would NOT happen with modern technology.

The guys that got shot, often died of some barbaric wounds that modern medicine makes simple.

There were some straight up torture punishments back in the day also. (read that thread on here the other day).

Our country has evolved pretty nicely. But as time goes on, it does seem that technology is making us lose the drive and toughness our ancestors have had.

Roger, I seem to always find myself agreeing with your post and today is no different

Everybody has this it’s us vs them mindset and that everything is a zero sum game. Instead of trying to find common ground amongst everyone and find solutions that please the majority of Americans we are engaged in hyperpartisan trench warfare.

Oh yeah, we’re going to have to do something about the debt at some point because running on a trillion dollar a year deficit is robbing generations of a prosperous future at the expense of a short term high.

Very low violent crime rate, historically.
Low unemployment.
Stock market all time high.
No major wars, although we're still mired in the ME as always.
Low interest/mortgage rates.

Yet 24-hour cable news, AM radio hosts, nutjobs on both sides, and facebook grandmas tell me the country's gone to complete shite. How soon we've forgotten pre-1980 USA.
