How do people >~55 years old have such a simplistic view of society?

Just a thought I've been pondering today. It happens from both sides of the political aisle, and although I am aware I have much less life experience than them, the world's issues cannot be boiled down to a few broad "problems" that you have identified. Listening to them, you'd think the world is just completely fricked.

It's called life experience. The longer you live on this planet, the more you see about people in general.

While he is oversimplifying/generalizing, it's something that I have noticed in a lot of older folks too.
I think it just has to do with younger generations growing up with much greater communications. For older generations, learning about issues was restricted to what your local papers, radio, and news stations were saying, unless you went out of your way to subscribe to specialty magazines and so forth. The younger generations can look up anything on the internet and are constantly bombarded from many different places on many different issues from many different angles. For better and for worse.

I've been on both extremes of this myself. I was born in 1965. The baby boomer generation officially ended in 1964, so I suppose that makes me a transitional boomer/gen X'er.
Nuance is awesome. But leaning on nuance is no way to run a government, an economy, or your life. Instead of being decisive and acting, you debate the nuances and do nothing. Better to identify what is good, what is bad, what is useful and what is not, and you let that dictate where you go.

You have a complicated view of society? Really?
It's not simple, as you will discover, and it's not complicated either, as you will discover.
