How close of friends are you? Does he support you in various activities?

I'm biased because I'm a pastor, but the service probably won't be that long and it'll mean a lot to him. But ultimately the decision is yours. By the way, I'm from St Amant too. We have baptism service coming soon. You don't think......

This is double easy when you're from Louisiana. I claimed crawfishing rights and all of my friends knew, and expected it. If I had something fun planned, but someone else called me with a more fun thing to do, I was a gone pecan. A good example would be tickets to a ballgame over a party/wedding/just about anything else.

In a situation like the OP's where the activity he wants me to commit to doesn't sound like something the OP considers to be fun, I'd just man up and tell him.

If this was a girlfriend, I'd go regardless, except in a case where I wanted to break up with her.

Might want to request your username be changed.

Heaven forbid someone do something they don't really want to do so they can sleep in a little longer one morning.

People are such selfish pricks nowadays.

This guy has made a dramatic change in his life for the better and has invited you to attend a significant event marking said change..... What a remarkable a-hole for wanting to involve you in something like that !

That is debatable.

Tell him you only acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. A second one is not needed.

This is the right answer. You're only supposed to get baptized once (see Eph. 4:4-6). Tell him you question whether he knows what faith he is converting into if they believe otherwise.

Cut off one of your fingers and spend the day at the hospital. As long as you keep the finger in a cup of vinegar they can just sew back on no problem and you can't even tell. I've done it probably 50 times

Is it one of those raise your hands when you sing churches? Yeah.. I'd try to get out of that, too.

If you can't make it, don't make up an excuse. This is probably a big deal to him and he wants you there, but also you being there isn't the main part or any part of his baptism. I'd go if I were you, but I like to support the people around me. An hour out of life on a Sunday is nothing.
