I think he gave her a good score card rating from the couch on the front lawn when she was walking to church.

(I’m sort of kidding. I think they met at a sorority/fraternity party. They’ve been happily divorced for over 30 years.)

My mom was a widow, having lost her first husband in a car accident at the young age of 22 with 5-year-old twins, one of which had mental and physical handicaps, and a 3-year-old. Her late husband's cousin was married to my dad's cousin and they set them up I guess a few years after her husband had passed away. They were soon married. I came along a couple of years later, followed by a sister 3 1/2 years later.

Unfortunately, my dad also passed away in a car wreck when I was 9. My mom always said my dad was the love of her life. He was a kind and gentle man.

Grew up in the same little town in NELA. Started dating in high school. My mom has joked that my dad was the only boy in her class she wasn’t related to.

Mom moved here from Scotland and found work as a receptionist for a heliport in South La. Dad worked as a repair tech for Motorola and they met in the office one day.

The 13th step is don’t go after someone new to sobriety, not “don’t go after anyone ever”. Big difference. So, yes, I do go to meetings.

My grandfather immigrated from Hungary as an infant in 1895 and his parents settled in Youngstown, Ohio.
He was a rebel and wanted to be a cowboy (1912) so he traveled to west Texas to start his career.
Not long after arriving in Texas and trying to be a cowboy, he met a girl from Chacahoula.
They married 2 weeks later. She wanted to return to Louisiana and they set up their home in Thibodaux where he raised his family and never moved.
Married until death.

My dad went to a small rural school in Alabama. In the early 50’s, the principal asked him to drive a school bus right after he got his license at 16. He saw my mother get on the bus one day and fell in love. She was 12! They got married 2 days after she turned 16. They had been married 55 years when she died.

My mom was a stripper and my dad was a VIP customer.

Once they started dating, he wasn't allowed to be there while she was working.

She quit and they eloped to Vegas.

ETA: They met in the Champagne room....but there was no sex.

My parents met on a blind date. Went to the drive-in.

The way my grandparents met was a bit funnier.

The first time my grandmother (no pics) saw my grandfather was at a town dance in Vernonia, Oregon in 1942. My grandfather, from Louisiana, was stationed up there doing training in radio mechanics. My grandmother said the dance was going well, when the front doors of the town hall flung open, and in stumbled five drunk American soldiers, including my grandfather. They had their pant legs rolled above their knees, and were yelling for everyone to head for the mountains because the Mississippi River was overflowing. So Too much and they were promptly escorted from the premises.

Anyway, their formal meeting was a couple of weeks later. Vernonia was a small town, and the soldiers knew they could practically knock on any door there, and be invited in for a home cooked meal at the asking. So that is pretty much what my grandfather did. He knocked at a random house, asked if he could join them for supper, and the rest is history. Their first date was a picnic and seeing "Orchestra Wives" at the picure show.

Dad knocked mom up in high school. His dad made him marry mom. He joined the Navy, then got discharged for a VD. Long years as an alcoholic, then graduated to drugs. Killed himself the day before my 20th birthday.

Mom left the piney woods of Washington Parish and my dad left the Indian streets of Baton Rouge (when they were blue collar) and they met at college at Southeastern.

His sophomore year, her freshman year—-both Baptist but were both hanging out at the Methodist student union because the Methodists had a pool table.

They met in November, got engaged on Valentine's Day, and married 62 years ago today at age 18 and 19. Married happily until he died last year.

Mom dated my uncle a few times - until she met Daddy. He was five years older and such a good looking, fun guy compared to his brother. Mom & Daddy were married 52 years until she died from ovarian cancer. Miss them both every day.

Dad was away from home and at college. Mom lived in college town and in sorority hosting a Sadie Hawkins dance. Her family was friends with my dad's roommate's family, so called to ask Jerry to the SH dance. Jerry had some other obligation that weekend, but he said she should ask his roommate, who had nothing else to do. They dated for about 6 months, dad graduated and got drafted, he proposed, but mom was under 21 and grandfather wouldn't let her marry a guy heading to Vietnam. Daddy did 12 mos in RSVN, and they got married a week after he returned stateside. Stayed married until he died about 6 years ago, but they fought like cats and dogs most of the time. My mom's a bit crazy.
