We have a beagle named Woodrow. We had another beagle named Gus when got him. Gus died a couple of years ago. They were named after Gus and Woodrow from Lonesome Dove. I love the names.

We got a dachshund from a rescue a few years ago. Her name was Velvet. We thought about changing but decided not to. Probably would have went with something else.

My daughter was studying mythology and threw out the name Apollo and everyone loved it. It’s an awesome name for an awesome dog.

My dog recently passed. His name was Gus. My grandfather used to tell me that's what he wanted to name me.
Our cat's name is bullshite. I do not regret it.

Goldendoodle and we named him Wrigley. He’s 10-weeks old and my daughter picked the name. She was born in Chicago and we recently went back for a weekend and went to a cubs game so she picked Wrigley.

We kept the name the rescue shelter gave him. Don't regret it.

We got our sweet pup from neighbors whose sons named him Banjo Kazooie after a Nintendo 64 game. One son was allergic to dogs and we took Banjo so the other brothers could come across the street to play - but also because Banjo was so stinking’ cute at 8 weeks old.

Initially his little min pin ears poked out sideways, so my son wanted to rename him Yoda. Banjo just ignored him. Two weeks later those ears popped up straight, so the name wouldn’t have made sense. Smart puppy!

Banjo was the runt of his litter yet lived to be two weeks shy of 19 years old. Quirkiest, funniest pup ever and his death left us devastated. I’ll never have another dog. Just can’t go through that again.

When we were looking for a dog to adopt, we saw one named Atlas and my wife and I both liked the name. We didn't adopt that dog, but we gave the name to the one we did eventually get.

He's a Great Pyrenees mix (so we were told by the shelter, 25% with a cocktail of other breeds according to a DNA test from one of his siblings) and was 25 lbs at 12 weeks when we adopted him. We assumed he would be a very big dog and the name of a Titan would fit. He topped out at 70 lbs, still good sized but not an XL dog.

Never have wished I went with another name.

ETA: His shelter name was Fabio, hell no .

I rarely call my dog by his name - he's dumb dumb, ding dong, ding-a-ling, dummy, shithead, idiot etc - it really upset my gf, but he wags his tail anyway.

Zeus is a Husky/GSD mix. When we rescued him it was “Theo”. We had to fix that! LOL

Currently no pets, but we got a puppy while we were in college, and had trouble coming up with a name. Until he came inside after pooping and drug his butt across the rug. His little short legs looked like he was a toddler scooting across the floor, so we ended up naming him Scooter.

My chocolate lab is named Barkevious Dingo after Barkevious Mingo. We just call him Barq"s after the rootbeer.

We had a Roscoe that passed a year ago that was named for the same reason. We also have a Bella that is the wife's Cockapoo that she named and another rescue that we kept his shelter name of Mike. He goes by Mike Mike Mike, Big Mike or Michael when we're being formal.

Side note: When you name a dog an everyday human name and shout it out in public to call your dog, it is hilarious to see the heads turn in your direction.

I adopted my dog when he was already a fully grown adult. He knew his name, so I thought it would be cruel to change it. Him having to adjust to a new home and family was enough.
