I have regular mint gum on me at pretty much all times, and probably chew 3-5 pieces a day and always when I'm driving. It's better than dipping instead though, haven't dipped in 3 years

It's a marathon. Pure misery for 2-3 weeks. Anxiety for 2-3 months. I emerged from the fog about 4 months in.

I quit over 10 years ago and still have dreams about dipping.

Try the gum or patch at first (I didn't) and get something to help you sleep.

Good luck - you're doing the right thing.

I hope the motivation to not be a tobacco user when my son is born is strong enough. I think it is.

Just turning 40 and I dip two cans a day. I stay with sinus infections and have done everything but take away the dip.

I think what I'm the most worried about is those "moment dips". The cutting grass dip, or messing around in the garage dip. I think I can just lay it down but the "moments" will be my downfall. He'll I could just shoot bourbon when the moments come lol

After 25 years plus, and quitting hundreds of times, I used Welbutrin (sp?) Did pretty well, started back for the hell of it after about six months.

Couple of years later I took a dip and it really didn't taste that good. I spit it out, threw the rest in the garbage. That was over four years ago, I still think about it and even dream about it but the urge just isn't there.

Don't put it in your mouth.

Trying it was an equally effective method of quitting for me.

Dipped for many years, Skoal to start way back in the 70's then moved on to Copenhagen and dipped like a fiend for about 30 years. Was able to stop pretty much when I wanted, but dammit, I LIKED Copenhagen!!

The best thing I have found is to buy a can, let it sit for about a week and get good and dry, then put in a big ol dip. That will taste like dog shite and you will not want to taste it again.

My sister's husband dips. She's picked up his Dr. Pepper spit bottle numerous times and took a swig thinking it was her soda

Happened to me once. I threw up a lot.

This is an insane amount. I dipped for about 13 years but at most was doing a can every 2-3 days.

1. I got to the point where I wasn't even enjoying it b/c I kept thinking about the long term consequences - this of course did not kill the nicotine addiction but it helped with urges.

2. Made a list of those consequences including: money spent per month, health effects, pictures of those health problems, etc...

3. I've never enjoyed smoking a lot so I knew (for me at least) that it would be possible to smoke an occasional cigar (1x/week when I really wanted a dip) until I wanted neither.

4. I went cold turkey. I didn't trust myself to stick to some weaning schedule. Gotta decide if you can do it. Identify trigger times to anticipate needing a dip

5. I also had TONS of sunflower seeds on me at all times. I'd throw a bunch of them in as if they were a dip.

You should spend a great deal of time looking at pictures from long term dippers. I'm not just talking about the tooth loss and gum disease (which is gross enough). Go do a picture search for guys that have had partial mandibulectomies (removal of the mandible/jaw bone) b/c their oral cancer started invading the bone tissue. Keep copies of hte pictures around you if necessary. Oral cancer also has a high rate of metastasis (spread) to tissues like the lungs. Once that happens, you're probably going to die. Just not worth it.

CSB time.

Summer 2011 had a class with Zach Mettenberger. He dipped and spit during class in a smaller classroom. It was pretty gross. Black chick decides she has enough and says so loudly during the middle of lecture. Hilarious

Sunflower seeds till my mouth was raw. I've been clean for 2 years. Benzos help the first couple of days if you have any. I was finding myself constantly with a dip in my mouth and knew it had too much control of me and it was time to quit. Copenhagen was my choice. Traveling was a hassle because what if I ran out what was I gonna do. They don't sell the stuff everywhere. Anyway it is tough to quit but it truly is worth it.

I just stopped. It wasn't that hard. A few mild cravings, that was all. Now I can't believe I used that shite.
