I've got a few pups with papers over the years - doberman, shepherd, 2 yorkies, golden doodle. Every one was a struggle. In 2011 I found a terrier-poodle-6 other things mutt living in a hole under my parents house. He's so young looking I thought he was a puppy of a larger breed but the vet said he was 2-3 years old. Instantly housebroken, very obedient. He never needed training or caused a problem. It's ridiculous how much he loves the shite out of me, the puppies you take from their mom just don't compare.

Had him 12 years this summer, he's roughly 15 now and got some grey but still has the youthful look

Whatever dog you decide on please do some research and make sure you have the yard size, time to meet the dogs exercise needs.

Golden retrievers, golden doodles are awesome dogs if you don’t mind a bigger dog and have the yard and time to play a lot of fetch.

So when does the whole ‘puppy’ thing become fun? We got one for the family and it’s been a nightmare since day one. Nearing 12 weeks old. Really hoping for some light at the end of the tunnel so I don’t regret giving in on this..

If this is how you feel about a 12 week old puppy, don't have human children.

Unless you are just trolling, it would help if you gave your living conditions and whatnot. Apartment in Chicago? 10 Acres in Georgia? Children? Other pets like cats in the house? Work schedule out of the house where the dog would be alone? All these things go into recommendation of a dog.

She was lost in the rice fields around Roberts Cove. We think she was just dropped off.

How did you get your puppy

My wife's animal hospital does discount deals for local humane society types of rescue orgs for cats and dogs. Tiny puppy was adopted, and days later got "returned" all kinds of fricked up. Org brings it in, manager said lets just euthanize it, it's severely frick up, it's already been surrendered, had no owner. My wife, for some stupid reason, decided she would make it her own project off the books. Repaired everything repairable. But dog would never be a "normal" dog. Tried to hand it back over to the rescue org. They said it's not adoptable because of how fricked up it is. So guess what? We got a new dog. That was about 3 years ago, the dog is fine, other than only having one eye and walks in circles from permanent brain damage.

My former boss had 2 Aussies that had a couple of litters 9 months apart. Dad was a working dog herding livestock on a farm, mom was the sweetest dog I've ever been around. Brought home a pup from both litters

Last one pound. Previous two were strays that were being fostered. All 3 were loving family members.

Last 2 were rescues, but the latest was from a puppy farm. There is something to be said for getting one at 8 weeks and being able to train it.

The rescues had a lot of baggage.

Two bedroom apartment within 30 yards of a dog park and 5-6 acres of walking paths in a southern city. Looking for a small/medium ish sized dog with medium energy. Preferably short hair. Not all set on a specific breed. Keeping options open. Don’t want to get a puppy mill dog and I don’t see many rescue animals that fit. I maybe found 1 that I’m going to look into but the rest are larger dogs. So that generally leaves breeders. And I’ve been on AKS but it all just runs together.

I was at a hotel bar one night getting liquored up and the front desk guy came up to our table and asked if we wanted to donate to the local humane society. Seemed like an affable fellow so I said sure. Next thing I know he's talking me in to swinging by in the morning to look at the puppies they have as that is what they really need help with. Fine; I decide to go. He asks what I like to do (hunt, fish, boating, usual baw shite, right?) and he says he knows just the litter. He opens a kennel filled with 5 half German wire hair half lab puppies - 4 start going ape shite and one just kinda sits there looking at me. huh I thought. so I kinda walk off to see what he would do and he follows me. I stop, he sits. I move he moves. His bros are jumping all over him and he just keeps sitting there uninterested by all of it. I say thanks for the intros but I have to run. I start walking towards the truck and the dog keeps following me out to the vehicle. Goddamnit.

Almost 3 years later and he's easily the best dog I've ever had. trained him the wildrose kennel way. dude has the energy to run all day but if we go a few days without doing anything he's totally fine with that too. Just an absolute beauty of a dog.

I didn’t want a dog. I’ve told my wife I don’t want a dog! ( we’re are both 56) well a friend of hers gave her a puppy and a GoldenDoodle at that . I told her that’s her dog and I don’t want nothing to do with it Two years later this 70 lb lap dog is beside me right now. I love this dog , he is the absolute best. He’s really smart , funny and just a good boy. I look forward to seeing everyday after work His bed is right beside mine

Got our vizsla from a local who happened to have a litter when we were looking. Great dog. He’s an old man now but still a big baby. We got my father in law a rescue that looks similar to a ridgeback without the ridge. She’s unbelievable in a good way. Great with all the kids, very sweet, and smart. Father in law is retired so he spends a lot of time training and working with her. Idk who got the better end of the deal, the dog or my FIL.
