How so?

Bc she was set up with the future king of England and he told her he didn’t really love her

He had been having an affair the whole time - so was the marriage even real?

Lol

How?

I mean - I know one of the other nuns that used to work with her, and Mother Theresa wasn’t always the nicest person and had some strange demands of her sisters - a lot of her orphanages and clinics were not the best but I’m not sure if ‘scumbag’ is the right term

I saw that documentary and found it thought provoking.

I know all people have flaws and that’s because we are human. I see people trying to knock Diana and Mother Teresa down. Of course they would try to impugn Pope John Paul because of the alleged actions of priests he never met or knew.

I guess that’s all part of it too. Nobody can be held in high regard because anything that person said, did or should have said and didn’t is held against them whether it happened when they were ten years old or fifty years old.

I only take issue with hypocrites.

This is really the answer as to why all problems are exacerbated today.

Social media may eventually lead to our extinction.

Not quite accurate. She also lobbied against the continued use of land mines. That's one of those feel good, brainless causes that doesn't stand up to much intellectual scrutiny. The British Army is never going to match an opponent in a major conflict in terms of manpower and equipment. Mines are an inexpensive and efficient way to increase the lethality of your forces without risking mass casualties. Was Princess Diana going to visit British mothers and console them because the Army could have reduced its own casualties through the use of mines, but in the name of some nebulous PC cause had to commit more troops to an incident or conflict?
It was one of those celebrity virtue signalling causes meant to appeal to emotions rather than common sense.

We always knew most people were assholes, social media provides a platform for each and every one of them to prove it. The world appeared to be a better place when skeletons were kept in the closet where they belonged.

As to another poster’s comment about Hitler using radio, that’s true, but he gained power appealing to the young and foolish, which is exactly what the democrats have done, set in motion by Obama. Free college and free healthcare sounds appealing to the young and foolish who don’t understand the link between free enterprise and freedom, and that nothing is really free. TINSTAAFL

We used to have pius people among us that everyone looked to for hope, guidance, justice, morality, humility etc.

We had Pope John Paul II that even non-Catholics regarded as trustworthy and whose opinion was given great weight. The new Pope sits with NBA millionaires instead of the poor and afflicted.

We had Princess Diana who demurred in being the future Queen but tried to help the poor and unfortunate during her time as princess. She was stoic in the face of shame and embarrassment by her prince.

We had Mother Teresa who performed miracles and sacrificed her life for the poor and afflicted. People came to her for healing and prayer.

These three people are just a few in the last 3 decades that have had a significant impact the loss of which has left a significant void in the morality of the world. There is no great moral voice or voices showing us how to get along with each other.

Why do people who have the most do the least for others? (I know this isn’t true of everyone but generally speaking) the millionaires and billionaires could save thousands if not millions of lives. Instead they preach to us and think they are special because they have more money than us.

I see all these young females and males glorifying themselves (some would call it other things but I’ll be generous) on social media. They all think they are models or something special. They are showered with money, gifts and food because they travel or pose for pictures or engage in debauchery.

Why don’t we reward the people who travel to countries to feed the poor or build houses for the poor? Why aren’t those people showered with money? How come we don’t promote selflessness and sacrifice for our neighbors? Instead we accuse others of being racists, sexist or bigots and harming any chance to build a better tomorrow.

This is probably too deep for The OT. I know we have a few here that might have ideas on how to breakthrough this unfortunate paradigm. I’m all ears.
