How did LaToya Cantrell get elected mayor? Were there not any viable native politicians?

It's hard to believe there were no viable, native democratic politicians available. They just let the California lady have it? What gives?

Like you ever go to New Orleans

Pay your taxes... while I don’t pay mine
Stop gathering in crowds... while I invite over hundreds of my lackeys for a “fundraiser”
She’s something.

No

as I recall one was a credit card thief (latoya) and the other was an embezzler
people decided credit card theft was lesser of a crime then embezzlement so latoya wins

Charbonnet was her opponent. Really just a matter of two political machines fighting each other. Old Uptown money won.

Her opposition was Charbonnet, she threatened to end Air BnB. LaToya got their vote.

Desi wouldn’t kowtow so the Uptown twats and Sydney Torres attacked her relentlessly in favor of Latoya.

She had the entire political machine and all of the old white uptown money behind her.
I really hope all of her supporters are proud. And I hope they never forget what they did to this city.
And I will never forgive them for it

ST is a “Shady Chalmatian” just as bad a LaToya

Landrieu was so bad that we didn’t think it was possible for anyone to actually outperform him but low and behold we have someone who matches Mitch’s wit without the mistress baby mama/ wife drama

Pick 20 random convenience stores anywhere in NO
Go stand near the check out of 5 for 5 minutes each, if you don’t clearly have your answer drive 5 miles reset you’ll have your answer. Which this is the city that re-elected ray nagin after he did nothing to help evacuate his city prior to Katrina . It’s beyond third world

Ray Nagin fricks the city in Katrina and makes his mayor of chocolate city comments
New Orleanians: my god how can it get worse?
Mitch Landrieu is proud to be a fricking landrieu.
New Orleanians: my god how can it get worse?
Latoya Cantrell speaks truth to power. gets elected.
New Orleanians: my god how can it get worse?
We should stop asking that question because it gets answered every time. And all of the intelligent people and people who care are moving to Jefferson Parish. So it’s going to get worse before it gets better. If it gets better.

Desi Charbonnet made the runoff. She is the female political twin of Marc Morial. Corrupt as they come. Was a terrible judge. Her brother, Bunny, is a mover and shaker and a real shady character, and it was assumed he would have a major role in the administration. Would have been major pay for play issues. Bunny has served on boards such as our lovely library board, which misappropriated a bunch of money, as well as general counsel for the Orleans Parish school board, back when they were misappropriating a lot of money.
Michael Bagneris was the other. He had some good ideas, he was a civil district court judge who seemed to care more about his personal ambitions than he did the city.
The voters thought Latoya was the least bad of the three.
I was really hoping someone like JP Morrell would have run... not that I'm a huge fan of his, but he would have been much better than the other candidates.

NOLA is a third world shithole. You should lower your expectations of its citizens.

Isn’t that the guy that introduces bills in Baton Rouge that only apply to Orleans Parish to end-run local politics and local voters?

Posting in this thread too:
Latoya did not cancel her ball saturday and it’s open to the public.
Someone should set up a go fund me and use all of the money to stuff the event full of homeless people under the overpasses downtown. Throw in some project hood rats as well.
I know the OT can do this. Let’s fill it to the rafters with homeless people.
