Maybe I'm in the minority but this is generally where I stand. I can deal with shady morals, but if he was actually corrupt with everyone gunning for him he would have gone down by now. Also its not like he has the backing of local and state politician, now one shows up to his church before election day just to be seen.

A fool and his money....
Swaggart, Bethany, Healing Place, all there for one reason, TAX FREE CASH.
Find a church that doesn't have a preacher that lives in a 10,000 square foot home.
Find a church that actually uses ALL of the money it takes in for God's work, not the owner's.
Its sad to see how easily people are brainwashed into giving someone every spare cent they have, but never see proof of the preacher doing actual good while he drives off in his S class.
My father is one of those poor, brainwashed, lost souls. He would barely be able to feed us on the weekends we visited (usually in a no or low rent apt), but he always found $100 or so to put in "Brother" Stockstill's plate. There is a special place in hell for preachers of mega churches that are personally filthy rich, its right next to the "Career politicians lounge".
God is my Lord, not some fancy dressed or fast talking preacher.

I know the Swaggarts pretty well.
I've personally had 2 terrible experiences with them, outside of the church.
They are snobby white trash and con artists.

Had a guy in college tell me he went to Swaggaet’s church because he could tell ole Jimmy just loved God so much. The guy was a nice person and always good to me so I didn’t start what would have been a personal vendetta against me by asking which Jimmy loved more: prostitutes, money, or God.

Everything they have is poured into building that television network.
Why isn’t it poured into helping those less fortunate?

Me and a buddy dropped acid in high school and were still tripping balls early Sunday AM...so we went to Swaggart's service in full thrash metal gear.
Some blue-haired woman adopted us, lured us in via a purse full of Werther's. Anybody that looked at us funny, she would snap at them to mind dey bidness.
It was actually kind of awesome, but every time we tried to get up and leave, she would throw puppy eyes at us and more candy to stay. We finally just bolted when her back was turned.
We called that morning the 40 Days Trip, cuz it felt like we had died and sentenced to eternity in Bible-Beater Hell.

Pentecostals are a very decentralized denomination and there wasn't anything they could do to him.
Back when he got caught on his "Tour of Hookers" he and his church were affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination. When home office informed him that part of the rehabilitation he was going to undergo was vacating the pulpit for a period of time (6 months or a year, i cannot recall), Swaggart refused. Because he refused to follow the program, the AGs terminated his affiliation.

I know the Swaggarts pretty well. They walk the talk regardless of what people here say. I see nothing in their lives that luxurious compared to what people here claim. Their vehicles are leased. Their home is nice but 40 years old. Everything they have is poured into building that television network. Lavish vacations? They take like one a year to some condo on the beach. That old man at 86 works from 5AM-late in the evening 7 days a week. He records music and preaches. They employ about 500 people in the Baton Rouge area and always offer their facilities to Entergy, state, etc. when disasters hit at absolute zero cost.
Some of yall need to give these folks a break. They not like some of these swindlers on TV preaching money cometh at folks and driving Bentleys. Any doofus can lease a bottom class Benz for $400 a month.
Yeah, I worked there for a little less than a year right out of HS and I can tell you that while Jimmy Swaggart never really was my thing, the business itself is legit from what I saw of it working within mail rooms. In the 80’s there were a lot of things I didn’t care for, like people putting Jimmy on a pedestal and such, but I never saw anything out of whack in a business sense. As far as a Christian sense goes, I did see a very real difference in things once the new sanctuary was built. It sure seemed a lot more humble prior to all that, but the truth is that the ministry itself operated like a well oiled machine and a sound business. I saw absolutely nothing to indicate anything other that up and up during my brief time there.

Many of you don't remember how it was during his initial "rise to power". Between him, other ultra conservative preachers and Ossie Brown, you couldn't dine outside with drinks, purchase alcohol in EBR Parish on Sundays, and heaven forbid have alcohol at a concert. While those laws were in existence before his time, he fought any changes in them tooth and nail. Other cities like New Orleans and Lafayette had repealed their Blue Laws much earlier. We were the last holdout for a medium to large city in the entire state.
Most of my friends (who were in their early 20's) thought the entire Parish was on a path to be locked down under his little budding empire like the movie "Footloose" where everything was forbidden. Hell, Baton Rouge would have been like Ruston under his control. Swaggert was greedy and power hungry.

This.
Baton Rouge used to host major rock concerts almost every weekend until these guys came. Now rock concert promoters avoid BR.

He isn’t/wasn’t Pentecostal. Jimmy believes in Trinity. Pentecostals believe in Oneness.

I admire Jimmy Swaggart's energy level and commitment at his age of 86.

I was very good friends with a guy that, while he didn't personally work for the Swaggert ministries, he did work for a business that as he put it used to clean up Jimmy Swaggert's "mistakes". He said Jimmy was a terrible drunk and that they constantly had to get his vehicle towed because he was always driving drunk and running off Highland Rd. He told me he was sure Jimmy was going to kill someone one night. He said there were many nights he was called to go pick Jimmy up because he was drunk and was at some place he shouldn't be.

I talked to a musician who played behind Jimmy from before the scandals until a couple of years ago. His take: When Jimmy eventually dies, neither Donny nor Gabe will have the moxie or whatever to keep the church going. He said that campus is going to make someone a nice hotel and convention area.
