Indian kids growup dreamning of being a brain surgeon or owning a hotel or 7/11??

I was reading Sam Zells book and he talked about how indians own a bunch of hotels. It was pretty interesting actually. They buy really shitty hotels in shitty areas, move their family into it, fix everything themselves, make sure things are nice, keep it full, make money, save as much money as possible, their families see its a good business practice and get into it as well. Its the same with the jews, their family members are in real estate so they get into it, they own all the real estate, if your family member is a welder, youre more likely to get a job as a welder, so it just begins to snow ball with other family members until you all have truck nuts hanging from your f250's and life is good

They are willing to work there 24/7 and live in the back allowing them to beat out any other competitors. If you are not willing to do those two things I wouldn't compete against them.

It comes down to hard work and low return. Most Americans would laugh at the return compared to hours worked. Now it's just become a family business. They raise their kids in these stores/hotels so the kids know the business backwards and forwards. The process repeats itself.

They work 24/7 and run a tight ship.

An Indian once told me that Northern Indians are the engineers and math whizzes. The Southern Indians are the 7-11 and franchisee types.

Or maybe it's the reverse. Anyway, I found that interesting.

It's the reverse actually. Most hotels are owned by Patels and Singhs who come from the North West and Northern regions of India.

BTW, most Indian restaurants in America serve North Indian cuisine. Food from South India is quite different and not many restaurants here serve that.
