How common do you think affairs are?

Someone told me 70% of marriages have at least one spouse who has an affair. I thought that was really high. What does the OT say?

It's been my experience that every marriage has a cheating participant.

Emotional affairs and physical affairs combined.... I’d say easily hits 70%
Just physics probably 50%

I think if you believe in tradution enough to get married, the actual percentage of affairs are low - like 20% maybe.
But the ones who do have affairs or have been hurt by affairs are very vocal about it and the percentage seems higher.

Way more common than you think. Disturbingly so.
Once you pull back the curtain of that world you can’t unsee it. You see the signs and the tells. Even the perfect little Facebook families can have dirty laundry beneath the surface.

60% of the time, it happens every time.

Yep. It’s people you’d never suspect. It sucks how common it is.

Probably just as much cucking as cheating.

I don't know why if you aren't happy with your situation, just end it.
Do that before screwing other people, have some respect for the other person

Not until you know what to look for.
When intimacy dies, all it takes is one person outside the marriage showing that attention they are craving. Then the desire starts. Then it’s those “harmless” baby steps towards the edge.
After that it just takes the one argument. The one night where there’s a thousand miles between you even though you are laying inches apart.
The first step is the only hard one.
After that it’s just chasing the high.

Yep. It’s easy to rationalize anything after it’s happened once.

That “perfect” Facebook family is never perfect. When people start posting about how happy and loving their SO is you know one is cheating.

Because there’s more at stake. There’s family and finances and friends.
And so many fall into the trap of “just this once”.
Because they don’t want to jump ship without a lifeboat. They tell themselves that it’s just a taste. Something to ease the longing. The loneliness.
Because at its core it is selfishness. Wanting to hold on to the life you have while drinking in the sweet poison of the forbidden fruit.
Every time they swear “this can’t happen again”
Until the next time.
Some people keep it together for a while, but the deeper they get the more things crack. The more it strains their life at home and validates their cheating.
