There’s a handful of people in my circle that we laugh we’re lucky to still be alive and/or never spent time in prison.
Some of our other people weren’t so lucky
1991-2001 were crazy times

I started HS in 1992 and graduated from LSU in 2000 so pretty close time range. Yeah, I have friends that are in prison, dead, etc. I really don't know how I made it through that phase of my life relatively unscathed.

19 or 20 drunk and dead tired at mardi gras, I hopped in a cab at Tips around midnight to get to my buddies parents house by cooter brown. My phone is dead so i dont have the address, just a vague direction to go in. Like head down st charles around tulane.
after a few minutes of saying "maybe turn here" the driver asked how i was paying. I said by cab account, he kicked me out on the spot.
Had to spend the next several hours aimlessly walking around a strange neighborhood that with no idea where i was going. Eventually just happened on the house around 5am.
apparently the direction that i came from to find the house was not a good area.
The best part was once I got there the door was dead bolted so I couldn’t get in. Passed out on the spot holding the extra key I had. His dad woke me up not long after to go on his morning run

In 1984, I lived in a house that faced a huge cattle pasture. It was enclosed by a barbed-wire fence…and also an electrified wire at knee level. A buddy and I decided to ransack the cinder block building in the middle of the pasture one Saturday, so we headed to the fence to figure out the best way to get through.
Being a 12-year-old moron, I volunteered to launch myself through the fence. My forehead made contact with the electrified wire and everything went black for a few seconds. I came to, but before I could move off the wire, the charge would come through again and I’d black out.
After a half-dozen times, my buddy finally pulled me off the wire. We eventually made it out to the cinder block building and were disappointed to find wasp nests and rusted farm equipment.

Installing temp power and a weather head one time when I went to cut the banding holding the metal wire on the spool. It acted like it was spring loaded and once tension was released it whipped around and snacked the brim of my harhat. Had it hit my face, I would of needed facial reconstruction.

College bar fight. Started over one of the girls in our group. Everybody got kicked out. Some dumbass went and got a gun and started waving it around and yelling in the parking lot. I was in the back seat and he pointed the gun at the girl in the middle, I flipped him off, he pulled the trigger. Went through the windshield, edge of the front seat, and through my shoulder. I could tell by his reaction that maybe he didn’t intend to shoot me
Took me about 15 seconds to comprehend that this motherfricker just shot me Clean wound, didn’t hit anything important. Could’ve been really bad though.

Drove west on highway 90 out of Jefferson parish in a 1958 ford with police interceptor engine in 1964 at 110 mph. with each canal bridge crossing the car came off the road.
Found a nesting roost of gros bec in the top of cypress trees behind Boutte and climbed the tree because gros bec were an excellent eating squab. cypress is a soft wood and after climbing to the birds, branches broke and I fell 30 feet before a thicker branch stopped
Walked into the runway bar in Dubai after midnight and it was totally filled with Saudi's in white thobes. Looked a whole lot like a liberal movie depiction of the KKK. As I was turning to leave, I heard "come here white boy and have a drink" I had about 5 scotch and waters before they would let me leave.
In Lahore Pak. the agent taking us to the airport said a short distance to airport, walk through departure, immigration security etc would take 25 minutes. Its a great place to leave and I kicked up a fuss about being late and missing flight but the agent won out. The next night, same flight timing, a bomb went off in the first class departure lounge.

I was drunk as shite and flipped my toob on the San Marcos once. River was running fast after lots of rain. No big deal, I am an ok swimmer. Except there was a pile up of toobs. And under water there was no where to surface. I swam a pretty good distance searching thru a gap of a big log jam. I eventually emerged next to some older baw and he saw me struggling to breathe and had me grab his tube. Good chance it saved my life. I could have been a tx st tubing fatality
