Suburban people are too busy keeping up with the Joneses for social media clout. Taking expensive trips, buying expensive vehicles, posing naked on social media for their 25th birthday, etc.

You don't just go to the Moon for the sake of going to the moon. You have to have some sort of scientific reason - especially if you want to put an actual human on the moon.
