New Orleans City Council rejected all six tax exemption applications from Folgers today. This was a company which didn't lay off a single person during Covid-19, but Helena Moreno's resolution to reject literally said that the additional jobs from the project are already in place so we don't need to grant a tax exemption for the expansion.

Who would be the ones to get cut?? My guess would be Mcneese, Nicholls, and ULM? Isn’t ulm the only school in the state besides xavier w/ a pharmacy program tho?
For someone in new orleans, there are 10 different universities within 1 hour. The Legislature lost it’s $@&! When Jindal tried to start streamlining some. He wanted to merge uno and suno - 2 state universities that are basically across the street from each other. Not shut down, just merge. Because everyone knows 2 state schools, across the street from each other, both need full staffs, humanities departments, police forces, libraries, etc.

Why you didnt list Piyush Jindal? He had 8 years to bring in big businesses himself.

Lol. Texas is business friendly and next door.

Don’t forget tort reform. Texas banned lawsuits and look at them now.

Louisiana is located in a great spot at the mouth of the Mississippi which is a good advantage for transport. Unfortunately our infrastructure is poor and roads make it very hard to get around. It’s puzzling where all our tax dollars go because you look around and don’t see anything impressive about the state. To me it starts with infrastructure and creating tax incentives to do business here. I agree with others that it’s hard to want to locate a head quarters here when Louisiana has one of the worst education systems out of all the states.

A tax code that allows businesses to understand the cost of doing business up front, instead of having to do the math for all the special tax exemptions. As an example, the State has long relied on local communities to lose out on property tax collections via the industrial tax exemption. At the State level the legislature likes to get lobbied(entertained, hiring of their family members, etc) to hand out State level tax breaks.
Simply put, tell a corporation what they can expect to pay to be here, and stick to it. Companies like stability.

If there were more regulations on land based drilling and fracking the offshore industry in Louisiana would be better for it, but I think it’s too late for that now.
Upstream is in the toilet and midstream is catching up, and it’s not because of too much regulation.

its as easy as just straight up copying Texas.
it's right there. they've been stealing all your oil revenue for 100 years, but you keep running them off.

What's funny is you can drive up to Hattiesburg and every other student you meet is from Slidell or Chalmette. They built all those colleges and still somehow have Mississippi eating their lunch right in front of them.
