Is it the end of the world? No. But all that are trying to downplay it are foolish, the virus is killing and yeah it looks like at a rate higher than the flu.

It's killing mostly elderly that have underlying health issues. Influenza does the same thing every year and has been especially vicious this year. If more countries were testing for it properly you would see more cases that would lower the over death percentage to something more in line with Influenza.

There is a lot of undue panic over this, but you are trying too hard to equate this to the typical flu.

This has shown to have a pronounced asymmetrical severity associated with age. Almost all below the age of 50 will see next to nothing with an illness more like a cold then the flu. Mortality shoots up significantly (~5-15%) above 60 though. Probable reason for this is related to the biochemical mechanism the virus uses to infect. Older you are, the more virulent the virus is for you.

I don’t remember hearing about seasonal flu causing 6 funerals at a single retirement home in a 48 hour period.
