My God, what horrible timing of events. It sucks to even hear about shite like that, I wouldn’t want to imagine having it happen to me. Sorry to hear that Owl. I used to think you were a Jack arse due to how you treated Oweo but I now see you just had good foresight into what a POS he is. That sucks you had no way in hell to foresee this type shite happening.
Oh, and to the guy that lost the major client due to diversity reasons, that really makes my blood boil. Sad, that this fricked up world is just going to encourage more and more things like that to be pulled from hard working, capable and deserving people and just given to someone else due to skin color. Exact opposite of what THEY SAY they are seeking.
My year has been ok. Stayed sober another year which is a great thing. Have kept my job through all this and while I don’t like what my job has evolved into, I still have one and can’t complain. I also hate working from home, but working from home allowed me to move to Houston which has been all positive.
My emotional state has been up and down. Not very happy, but definitely not in a deep dark place or riddled with anxiety like I’ve been before.
No Covid deaths of anyone close to me. Parents getting older and it’s becoming more and more obvious that there are some emotional times ahead of me and they’re coming faster than I’d like but that’s Father Time doing what he’s known to do.
Sorry to all of you that lost so much. I’ve had some really terrible years too but luckily 2020 wasn’t one of them. I don’t know how I would have survived this if I wasn’t in a decent spot personally when it all began.
Both good time and bad times always switch places at some point. Learn to enjoy the good one because if you don’t, the ‘good ole days’ always seem to be behind you and that always spoils today.

I was thinking about this earlier and to be honest, 2020 has been pretty great for me. Lots of fishing, hiking, exploring. I plan on having a great winter as well.

Year started off fine. Covid slowed work down for me but our company had a great year despite it.
Personally, we decided to refinance and remodel our 1940s house in April. The loan/appraisal/underwriting process was killer just because all of the people fleeing CA and NY to our area. Took 5 months and one month of that the mortgage company just kinda forgot to keep working on our file. Finally got it done and some friends agree to let us stay in their garage apartment. 400 sq feet for 2 adults, 2 teenage boys, and 2 dogs. It’s only 2 months so it won’t be that bad.
First month of renovation was awesome. Couple of weeks and all the demolition, framing and electrical were done and we were just waiting on plumbers to finish a few new builds. Plenty of things go wrong from 1940 construction and an 80s add on. We’re over budget, but ok because of contingency, in the first week.
3 weeks later the plumbers show up and then walk off the job because they underbid. Then we had to rebid and wait on other plumbers.
In the middle of this my wife gets exposed at school and has to quarantine. Then my kids hang out with the family we’re staying with a day before he tests positive and they have to quarantine. Since my wife is in the same room she has to stay out another 2 weeks. None of us caught it but the three of them are stuck in one room for the better part of a month. Between the two families I’m the only one that hasn’t had primary exposure and can leave the house/apartment. My whole family is pretty pissy by the end.
On the house front, the plumbers take 10 days for what should be a 4 day job. We finally pass all inspections and can start putting things back together. Then the sheetrockers just decide not to show up for 2 weeks. They tell our contractor they’ll show up tomorrow 5 days over two weeks and never show. So now we’re 3 months into a 2 month renovation and have no walls. They finally got going last week and moved quickly.
We knew Renos can get this way but I feel like we’ve hit every hurdle possible. It’s very first world problems compared to most people’s struggles during this time but it’s been a kick in the gut. If it were any other year I’d say it was one of the worst of my life but compared to people that have lost loved ones or their business I know I’m lucky.
I haven’t become an alcoholic or anything but I’m polishing off 2 6 packs a week minimum and my running has gone to shite. You can also imagine how often I’ve been laid in the last 4 months being in the same room as my kids.

This has been a really bad year, but a lot of people around me have had it much worse.
I was on the verge of finally turning the corner with my firm but then it almost collapsed. Happy to not be on the verge of shutting it down like a lot of people I know are facing.
My city was destroyed by a hurricane, which, combined with Covid, is really creating a major issue of future projection, but as for the current being I'm doing a lot better than most people in my city.

TBH, nothing really changed for me. I still road bike/mountain bike. My IT job, can be remote or in the office. Wife doesn't need to work, so don't care. 401k is up. I'm in Fl, we can get food as needed, go out to eat. I think my 401k is blowing up. Feel bad for folks that had a down year though. I am a little pissed that Trump didn't get re-elected.

Best year I have had financially... also got ppp funds which was nice
My marriage was on the skids for a couple weeks... having kiddos at home 24/7 put a lot of stress on the marriage but we have figured it out.

Positives: LSU winning NC, killing it in the stock market, more time with kids.
Negatives: Trump losing, parents (and society) freaking out about COVID.
The precedent has been set now to erase freedoms at the whim of these state governors. They will be finding ways to abuse that even after the pandemic is long gone.

I don’t know what to say. It hasn’t been a walk in the park emotionally but it’s been fine otherwise.
It’s something we’ve never dealt with before - so it brought a lot of chaos and uncertainty at first.
Although I’ve been lucky because I’ve lost nothing. The emotional dire was brought upon from worry - but I’ve since gotten over that.
I do feel bad about, and have tried to help those I can who have suffered.

My 13 year old dog died, my grandfather died, my grandmother died, my father died, and both of my wife's parents have stage 4 cancer...and as my company's lone IT guy I've had to get our employees through multiple lockdowns and quarantines. Also I had to move my wife and child to a new apartment because our old apartment had mold issues that our landlord wouldn't address. The mold caused my wife to be sick with respiratory issues all year because she's allergic to mold. It even caused me to have some headache/sinus issues
I've now moved to a new house that is 2 years old and our health has significantly improved.
2020 has been a bastard.

shite like that makes me go “yep, my stuff is first world problems. Quit bitching, self.”
Sorry for your loss and hoping and praying that the house goes well and improves your wife’s health.

I had a divorce I didn't want in 2019. 2020 is a piece of cake by comparison. I have made more money and tried more new things in 2020 than in the last 10 years combined.

Just got laid off
Had to cancel my dad's memorial and scattering of his ashes due to COVID
Worse than some, but not nearly as bad as others.
Here's to 2021 not sucking as bad as 2020

2020 is a pretty high bar, but somehow I think 2021 has the momentum to reach that height...
