How are these restaurants and hotels going to be able to reopen?

Assuming a 40 hour week, unemployment is paying $21.18 an hour.

Even the most hard core "living wage" folks aren't asking for that much... and that's for working!!!

These places are going to have a hell of a time trying to reopen before July 31st.

When JBE gives the "most-clear", he needs to give it a 2 week period, and the reinstate the "actively looking for work" requirement for unemployment.

This is more than likely what will happen.

"actively looking for work"

I'm sure that will be enforced with an iron fist.

When employers begin to hire staff back and they refuse, it is the equivalent of quitting. The employer must then submit another notice of separation and benefits should cease.

the real issue is going to be people not eating out as much for a long time.

How does that work? Couldn't someone just say "yep, I applied to 5 jobs this week. Haven't heard back."

What happens when benefits from the “epidemic” expire?
In couple months.

I think a lot of people are just itching to get out the house and eat at a restaurant.

Along with the limit. Unemployment doesn’t last for forever. After so long they have to reapply any many will not be approved (hopefully).

I'm sure some people will but I think others will avoid crowds for some time.

Not even close.

I’m thinking we’re gonna see a boom when the light turns green.

Most of us are skeptical about this entire thing anyways.

Part of the weekly filing is that you have to submit places that you applied- company, job title, who you emailed/spoke to, how you applied, phone number, email address, address. And you typically have to do 3 per week.

Temporarily during the government imposed shutdown.

Fake news.

That's exactly how it worked in Alabama when i was laid off several years ago. You had to apply for benefits every week, and there was a box to check affirming you were actively seeking work. There is no standard to determine what actively seeking works means though.

Heck, after people got Katrina money, the restaurants had a hard time getting servers and other workers for a long long time. This could be worse.

Under the normal system, when you do your weekly check-in to keep getting benefits, you must provide the names of so-many people you talked to about trying to get a job. So you list names of places you applied to, called, interview, etc.

Now, does LWC audit that and follow-up with those places and ask them of Chuckiee did actually fill out an application? What do you think?

The extra $600 a week is just temporary.
