I’m on 550 acres and still wouldn’t fire a gun into the air. About the only thing I would shoot into the air is shotguns. If I’m shooting AR’s I’m shooting into something or into the ground.

My wife's neighbor used to go outside at midnight and fire an M-1 carbine in to the air. The muzzle flash was awesome, but I always hoped the projectiles landed in the Mississippi River and not on somebody's noggin.
