It's true.

It's also completely irrelevant to a thread about a Houston to Dallas bullet train, which would be awesome for those two cities, and hopefully could tie into a Houston to BR to NOLA train in the future.

It's slated to cost about $10 to $15 billion, and as we reported earlier this week, Texas Central has so far raised about $75 million.

Texas Central plans to hire 10,000 people per year to build the train, and Turner said construction will hopefully begin by the end of 2018 and be finished in 2023.

mean, if you factor in driving to the station, parking there, the 90 minute ride to Dallas, then walking to your next method of transportation once in Dallas

It takes you 2+ hours to commute to and from the stations at each city?

If you commute from, say, Flower Mound to the Dallas station and then from the Houston station to, say, Pasadena, yeah. Easily.

Which would be about a 4.5 hour drive. So 90 minute train plus 2 hour commute would still be an hour faster.

And if you're working on the way down, that's 90 minutes more work than driving.

True enough. Depends on the type of job you have. But the point is that the convenience is nice, but it has to outweigh the costs and headaches involved. If you have to rent a car once in Houston or Dallas, how long does that take? How much does that cost? Add it to the ticket price. Is it now worth driving? How much time are you saving by riding the train? 2 hours? 1? 4? When does it become worth it?

There's the rub.

But they're already linked.

90 minutes? That's terrible. Let me know when they get this time under an hour.

Maybe if the dipsticks in ATX would fricking vote for a light rail system expansion they might be considered for stuff like this. Since they won't, they get nothing.

Tiger quick question since you were on a sub.

Were your comm channels limited to 3-3.9 GHz?

No, in fact we very rarely transmitted on those freqs.

We had equipment that handled each portion of the spectrum from VLF (3-30khz) to EHF (30 to 300 gHz)

We would trail a VLF antenna while below the surface in case the fleet needed to contact us. The baud rates were terribly slow so the message would basically read, "Get your arse to periscope depth, we have something important to tell you"

Most comms were handled in the UHF range (300mHz - <3 gHz) . Multiplexing was the newest thing in submarine radio tech back in those days (96-00) and I was sent to a school to learn our new "Mini-DAMA" system

Voice comms to the landbased commands were in the EHF range
