They also say they will not use federal grants to build it. However, there are federal loans for businesses.
I wonder if the rail will be managed half by NTTA and half by Harris County Transit

Never gonna happen

You are just use to seeing your money go into someone's pocket than actually seeing it work for you. It's ok, watch Daddy work now.

IMO, the people who most travel this route do it for work and want to be productive. Vonlane has already carved itself a nice market by offering a luxury (i.e wifi, DC power, privacy) bus ride to Austin/Houston/Dallas/SA.
Granted, the total expense and overhead is drastically different for a bullet train, but if ole uncle Drayton wants to raise money from his rich buddies to fund it, I say go for it. There will be lots of pissed off rural Texans though.

Should be pretty awesome.
The one they are trying to build between Baton Rouge and New Orleans won't be much of a bullet. It will be limited to 30 mph over the spillway unless the bridge is replaced.

ohh don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and would be used all the time. Just not a feasible option for me personally.

Hey, they have .75% of the funding done. It's just a matter of time. . .
Here is someone else who gets it. $75 million raised when the peoject is projected to cost $15 BILLION
Perspective. They have $75,000,000 raised towards a project that did not actually exist in any form or fashion until yesterday. Now you have signatures from the mayor and builder, and soon to have plans approved by city council (which they will be). Funding will begin in earnest now. Hell, Drayton alone is worth 2.1 Billion dollars, and he has had a large group working on this for several years. The scale of money is not that great (for this state) if a road to profit exist.

Meh, that's only like 160mph. If they're going to spend $15 billion they need to get it closer to 300mph.

I hope they name it Blaine the Mono.

I love that this is a private company investment and wish them well.

Maybe if you live in Conroe or you do it at 2 am
The target is mainly folks who are traveling for work. I think the airlines have been huge opponents

I still don't get the point. Liberal are creaming themselves over this, but I think it is pointless. I guess it is very European of us????
Any sane person know this thing will cost more than it is projected to leaving taxpayers to have to foot the bill.

Yuge waste of money. Only politicians and the construction companies are clamoring for this.
PS doesn't the mayor of Dallas have to sign on?

I think the Acela gets up to 160 mph in New Jersey.
I guess Texas is trying to develop that corridor. It would be wise to run the tracks through College Station and Waco if they could. Hopefully they can eventually extend it north to Oklahoma City and south to Galveston.

I'd agree with you
But with emergence of self driving vehicles it'll be interesting to see how the demand for these trains evolves

I think at one point the proposal was a triangle between Houston/Dallas/Austin but it's going to be hard enough to get this done. If it does it will be finished like 20 years from now

Like all passenger rail, it will take a while before it will pay for itself. It will probably impact development in the area it serves to the point that people will become more dependent on the line. From there, they could add more express trains, more stops, and spurs to other cities like Austin or San Antonio etc.

They're touting it as private funding but I think the state will be left to deal with it.

That are heavily subsidized.
This seems to have boondoggle written all over it.

I wonder how much when they find out Trump will be giving out this federal loan to cover the expense. He's already spoken out on being in favor for it.
