quote:

Mayor Sylvester Turner and Texas Central President Tim Keith signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), signaling Houston's commitment to the bullet train with Texas Central as its developer. The memo kicks off what Turner called "the starting point of definitive agreements" with Texas Central to build the high-speed train, which would be entirely privately funded and would be the first bullet train in the country.

quote:

Texas Central plans to hire 10,000 people per year to build the train, and Turner said construction will hopefully begin by the end of 2018 and be finished in 2023.

quote:

The bullet train will take passengers from Houston to Dallas in 90 minutes, with one halfway stop in the Brazos Valley. It's slated to cost about $10 to $15 billion, and as we reported earlier this week, Texas Central has so far raised about $75 million.

Hopefully this is step in the direction of getting these all over the country. Would be great to hop a bullet train to other areas of the US.

Says the idiot whose state can't seem to make I-10 not be one fricking lane.

I will enjoy the 90 min weekend trip to H-Town. Maybe then we can stop hating on one another

Edited for La dickheads who can't bring any real discussion to this thread.

I see you're from Louisiana. I know you're used to your state not getting stuff done, but this is Texas.

Texas gets shite done.

90 minutes ride time?

I mean, if you factor in driving to the station, parking there, the 90 minute ride to Dallas, then walking to your next method of transportation once in Dallas. This doesn't seem like all that much of a convenience for most people, when it's only a 3.5 hour drive now.

They should use the money they build high school stadiums with...

Side note: Meanwhile, New Orleans is still dealing with century old pumps, a corrupt system of government and a piece of shite mayor.... How about that for irony...

huh????

I am guessing this will be used at max capacity during the weekends more than likely. Traffic isn't that bad. Depends on where they are putting the station.

But you can take an 8am train and be in H-Town by 9:30am.

Exactly how is that not convenient? It takes almost 4 hours to get to Houston....

They need to cut the 90 minutes down to more like 30 minutes.

Longer than that if you're going to from Dallas to Houston on Friday after work. Those morons in houston can't drive and I45 is always a shite-show, even at 8-9 pm.

I still haven't seen how much tickets will cost.

They also say they will not use state funds to build it. However, there are federal loans/grants for businesses.

Here is someone else who gets it. $75 million raised when the peoject is projected to cost $15 BILLION

Every million is 1/1000 of a billion. They have 75/1000 of ONE billion. And they need FIFTEEN billion.

Plus, it's a private entity building it and operating it? It has to have a return on investment. How in the hell do they expect to get ROI on a direct shot from Dallas to Houston with only one stop?

Color me skeptical as frick.

ETA: the 0.75% referenced in the quoted post above is BEST case (if the projected $10 billion is correct. But let's be honest, it'll never come in on the low side of projected costs.
