Yeah he should assume 1-1.5 hours each way. Even with no traffic that’s a long drive.

I've driven for interviews in Spring (HP) and similar locales (Greenway Plaza), and known I wasn't taking the gig based on how long it took me to get there (pre-COVID). OP could make to Austin faster than he could make it back from Deer Park to the house on a weekday.

This is a shite sandwich.

That's a nasty commute that is subject to substantial fluctuations. I would plan to leave at 0545 in the mornings and the time you get back home will depend on traffic flow.

The commute home is what going to blow, especially if you work till 4. 225 is a shitshow after about 330

Hadn’t made the drive myself during commute hours but I hear BW8 from Atascocita to ~Deer Park isn’t too bad. Maybe look in the Humble/Atascocita area? I don’t think I would mess with Spring personally given work location.

Are you already married to Spring?

If not, Clear Lake or Friendswood may be a better spot.

How long you tend to work out of Deer Park?

Agree. There’s not a good time to beat the afternoon commute. It starts at 4 and is a mess until around 7.

i live in tomball, and work in stafford,

I leave stupid early 4:30am and come home at 3:00

at that time, it's usually 35-45 minutes

If your co can flex your hours, and hour earlier would be significant difference, but if I left at 4, instead of 3, it would be 1.5+ hours to get home, ranting all the way

I travel from Friendswood to near IAH daily. However, I work ~6 - ~3, so it’s not terrible at all.

Try to get flex hours and the commute won’t be bad at all.

I am the north west side of the loop and it’s about 30-40 minutes to deer Park in the morning and a 30-60 minutes on the way back but I am rarely in the office after 4 for that reason.

Unless you have some family reasons to live in spring, I wouldn’t. The ghetto parts of Spring are some of the worse parts of Houston and the non-ghetto spots aren’t all that great either.

I do not miss Houston traffic. Used to have one hr commute each way. Live in KC now. Been here 7 years and haven’t once had to deal with traffic other than leaving a chiefs game.

Doable. Still a long drive but at that time, no traffic and smooth sailing. I do Woodlands to Energy Corridor 3 days a week and if I leave before 6 am, it's 45 min or less.

return trip to Spring at about 4PM?

Houston traffic is worst at 5, but many people start heading out at 4. That commute will be 3 hours a few times a month when there awful traffic. I chose where I live because I'm in sales and my customers change every few years. I can live anywhere and will eventually have a shitty commute. However I can also leave as early as I want if my work is covered. Permanently expecting to have that commute and knowing I'd have to stay until 4 would be a no go for me.

Prob not too bad at those times.

I commute from the Woodlands to downtown. Leave at 6am and max it takes is an hour. If I get on the road by 3:30pm it’s about the same. After 4 takes a bit longer in the afternoon.

Once you start heading east you won’t have many problems at all esp if you’re already east of 45.

1 hour max.

I live in spring and occasionally work at the NE corner of the beltway and traffic is usually light along that part of the route. Well at least compared to heading towards Katy which I do most days.
