Breakdowns are normally due to tire/axles in Houma parades. I would be willing to bet that Houma riders have more throws per person than anywhere. I rode in terranians for 6 years and our float had aircraft tires. Hercules has some older floats using truck tires that tend to break down often.

I can definitely see that at the end of the route as some still have throws even after going at it for almost 6 hours.

I know one krewe started to put some new airless tires on their newer floats.

I can remember way back when a Hercules float loaded down with beads while being transported to the mall flipped over and some one stole the head piece of a large fish because the krewe left it on the side of the road.

I also remember when a Queen took nearly an hour and a half of pictures at the reviewing stand.

My whole point of my post is that the floats are stopping way too much and taking a long time to go such a short distance.

I believe google maps says you can walk that route in about a hour and a half. So the parade isn’t even achieving a walking pace.

Was at the Abita Springs parade yesterday. Strange mix of meth heads, older hippies, and families. Fun parade that took 45 minutes

Yep, it's the perfect length parade for small kids.

I didn't go to Eve, but it sounded like it wasn't rolling down causeway approach until around 9 Friday night.

I would much rather that than take my kids out to a parade, take the time to get all set up, wait for over an hour to only get 20-30 minutes of floats in front of you.

I have not seen a Houma parade that short unless weather was a factor. My gripe is that it takes way too long to reach the end of the route.

Yesterday when I was using a parade tracker app, I saw where the Houma parade was in relation to the route and compared it to a parade in New Orleans. For 2 parades that both started at noon, by 3 pm the New Orleans parade was almost over while the Houma parade was just past or near the cross over point.

Hercules floats are built way better than the shite they had the first few years. OP Is correct though. We have a spot right past the mall. My brother was on float 23 and he passed in front of us at 8:15. First float didnt get to us till almost 7.

If you're going to go to the trouble to have a parade, it may as well be long.

I road in titans last year. The route itself is the right length imo. The stopping for the toast or whatever they do take a too long. We had a half track from the military museum break down but that didn't hold it up too long. The toast took about 30 minutes to complete

I really dont understand it. Should take no longer than 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete the route.

I ride with Hercules and I agree that it took way too long. Took us a long time to actually leave the mall parking lot, so much so that I was able to get in a 45 power nap. Then we were stopped somewhere for what seemed like 30 minutes. Veterans on the float acted like it was business as usual, but it was my first time riding and I was pissed.

In NOLA, they seem to breakdown when certain rap songs come on and all the drunks start jumping up and down on the float, hello flat tire or broken axle.

Obviously, you have never been to a Houma parade. They do the same thing, but the music is 10 times louder.

I think some crews spend more on speakers than throws.

Do you know how hard it is to pull a float with a 2003 Chevy trailblazer riding on two spare tires? Gotta go slow

They mainly use Dodge Ram Pickups from Southland Dodge, so I guess when March rolls around they start marking down some of their truck inventory as they are left with a ton of low mileage trucks at the end of Mardi Gras.

All Mardi Gras parades should treat stopping for toasts like accepting an award at a televised award show. Three minutes, then music comes on, the mic cuts off, and the float starts to move again.

Agreed, like I posted earlier, one year a Queen for a Houma parade stopped for nearly an hour and a half to toast her king and take photos with the court, and there was even another parade behind her krewe.
