He also averaged nearly 15 trips to the dealership per year.

I'm sure you could keep most cars running that long if you have the car serviced at a dealership once every 3.5 weeks.

He took it to get serviced at the dealership? That guy must love getting ripped off.

Yeah they gave him a "free" car after he paid 4 times what the car was worth in dealership fees and gas I'm sure

That's an average of about 350 miles a day, 7 days a week for 8 years. Am I the only one who thought of Al Bundy?

This was funny.

And a great question. Answer:

North Dakota, Wyoming and Virginia

I've driven to all of those places from Georgia and Louisiana. And couldn't imagine doing that monthly-plus! That's what it would take (in round trips) on ave to get to 125k a year.

...he would need an oil change every 3.5 weeks honestly.

As for going exclusively to the dealership, he probably got screwed for the first few visits, but in college we used to take care of our regulars. Eventually they would get everything at cost plus 10%. Tires at cost plus 5 bucks.

As much free press as the brand was getting when he was in their dealership, it's worth it.

I have a Toyota and my oil changes are definitely cheaper at the dealership. Have priced them multiple places. By like 20 bucks too.

They are cheaper at home.

0w40 mobil1 on amazon for $23 a jug.

One fram ultra filter for 6 bucks from rockauto if you order a half dozen and save on shipping.

But... Even I wouldn't want to change my own oil if doing it every 2 weeks.

Greg LeBlanc Nissan used to have a deal where if you had their front plate on the vehicle, they gave you free oil changes. So their Toyota dealership may do the same. Plus some dealerships will let you pay so much for a service package and get like 10 free oil changes or something. Could be why.

I always wondered how much a hot shot driver actually drives. Screw that noise.

I saw this on Jalopnik the other day, and am definitely interested in the results of the study. Toyota did a similar study a few years ago when they gave a new Tundra to a West Texas cattle rancher. He put 100,000 hard miles on it and they took it back at that time, tore it apart and studied everything. Even things like the hydrocarbon filter and water filter were still extremely clean and it was in great condition.

I've been truck shopping for the last two years or so, and reliability and durability is what put lead me to buy a Tundra.

I'd always thought I'd wind up in a Ford -- my dad has had two King Ranches -- but I couldn't get past the Tundra reliability and bought a '16 Crewmax SR5.

If you left your car running at 15MPH 24/7 for 7 straight years, you would hit this guys mark.....that's crazy.
