Then why force them? This will just force them to believe that every adult is worthy of respect going forward. It's also going to make them resent you in cases where they grow up and realize that they were right about an adult not being respect worthy.
My mom used to make me respect every adult I came across. The result? I don't trust her judgement.

Wow. Broad generalizations much? I have 3 that are in the age group you mentioned. Of the three 1 is working toward his aeronautical/aerospace engineering degree and pulling a 3.5+ while paying his own way. Another is a Special Forces army aviator who almost lost an eye on mission earlier this week and the third works full time at the country’s largest sporting good store. It is employee owned and he run 3 departments and is their go to guy for anything related to firearms. He also has a side company he owns training people on long range (1,500 yards and out) rifle shooting.
I happen to think they are all doing very well and everyone of them are respectful so STFU.
