A guy I referee HS and club soccer with teaches pre-K. He worked for a local college for years and his job was eliminated 3 years ago. His wife and son are both teachers as well.

Bullllllllshiiiiiit.
An income based repayment plan would make his payment amount ridiculously low.
As a teacher, it will be forgiven after 10 years under PSLF.
This guy is fricking around some other way but it isn't his loans.
He's living in his car. He should be able to pay $13K off in like half a year.

Fun Fact:
Texas teachers are not subject to pre-employment drug testing, nor are they drug tested during employment.

Being a teacher for 19 years I can clearly tell this fella is just a loser. Typical idiot that gives the rest of us a bad name.

buy her pay here loan on his POS car he got post discharge.
It's more than 20% I had a friend stuck in this.
He got $1500 loan against his car. $95 interest fee. Loan due in full in 30 days. Don't have the $1500 in 30 days? You can pay just the $95 and get another month. So$95 of the bill goes to interest. If you pay $200 a month it'll take you a while to pay off. But then once you have the balance below $1000 they offer you anther $500.
It's crazy. You'll end up paying $1000s for a $1500 loan. Miss one payment and you lose your car.
Thigh still no where near as bad as Indian reservation loans.
With 145% minimum interest some as high as 375%.
I read the fine print years ago and you pay back $32,000 to borrow $5k.

He makes too much to qualify for affordable housing
He can't get an apartment because of his credit score and student loan debt.
This is the PERFECT example of "Those who can, DO. Those who can't, TEACH"
In the real real world (outside of Gov't jobs/positions)
a normal individual would do one of the following:
A. he makes too much to qualify for affordable housing,
He would save up money for a down payment to purchase a house that he can afford. Later, he would sell that home, use the profits to upgrade to a better home...
NOT go-fund me and look for a handout.
B. home ownership is NOT for everyone. Some are better off renting - as in this case. If you insist on skipping out on paying your debts back (student loans), then ask the apartment complex if you can pay a month in advance.
NOT go-fund me and look for a handout
These are the liberal "looking for a free handout" that are in the classrooms teaching your kids!!

There are always private party landlords who won't do checks though.
Also some places will let you rent if you have shitty credit and you direct your direct deposit to an escrow so they can deduct rent and then you can transfer from there. He a lazy frick who is just trying to hustle people.

'Men' should not be 4th grade teachers.
One of the big problems in this country is the lack of positive male role models for kids. I wouldn't say this guy fits the bill, but in general more male teachers would be a good thing.
