Our neighborhood resembles a shopping spree at night nowadays. We have tons of neighbors with security cameras, I don't have a system.

It is disturbing how many images and video are taken weekly of folks just randomly walking up and down the neighborhood streets at 3 am.

My wife and I are looking at a system, but I really don't know why, I am almost to the point where I would rather just not know.

But for those that have systems, how many cameras do you have, and about how much do you have invested. Do you have the LED motion lights and other shite with them. Do you find any value in them?

I have 15 cameras.
But I bought the house from a guy who owns a security company. I've had 2 breaks in, both in my shop. Both times the idiot kicked in the door, the alarms went off, and the idiots looked directly into the camera. 1 even made the 6oclock news. They are a deterrent to an extent I suppose.

I did mine my self

Bought a Qsee 8 camera DVR with 4 cams. I later added 2. I have caught a bike thief already.

IMO its a deterrent but not a complete answer. The criminals often just wear hats or cover their faces other ways.

Costco.com is where mine came from
i also have a house alarm.

It seems I hear very little about actual arrests being made, was this thief arrested, or you just caught on camera.

There is a big push here to get more and more cameras up as a deterrent, I just don't know if it is worth the hassle. Really not that expensive.

I have 8 cameras set up and recently got an NVR coupled with the feed being recorded at my work where I have a personal server.

It's a great investment in my opinion and have already caught some thieves as a result of my cameras. Don't go cheap.

Mine has paid for itself several times over from deterring thieves, busting postal workers that weren't delivering expensive items that showed delivered(several times), to keeping an eye on your kids while inside.

MFers at the post office told me I was out of luck until I invited the postmaster over to watch the video of the driver not delivering anything. It miraculously showed up a few days later.

What's your exit strategy? Never ever invest without knowing when to get out. I learned this the hard way on fannie mae.

shite where do you guys live?

I've considered it, FWIW, but surprised so many people seem to have so many issues.

I live in a nice enough place they think you got something worth stealing and so many folks leave shite unlocked (like me) that the thieves just check door locks on cars all night. They find an open one and just look around.

The killer thing is just how ballsy they are walking around, it is like they own the place.

We need a law like Texas.

I'd like to get one just so my wife could be freaked out by the wildlife that goes through our yard. Not much worried about the human traffic in my neighborhood.

I live in a very nice hood, the place behind my house is selling for 800k, although my house is not that nice.

and I am considering getting one. We just have random people walking up to garages and cars trying to open them.

Wife is dead set against it, but I think it just encourages the person to rob my neighbor vs. me. I am 100% ok with that b.c he is an alabama fan.

West Point here too. Neighbor had someone knocking on her back door few weeks ago at 2 a.m. She did not call the cops because she did not want to get anyone in trouble. Sick of this crap.
